Thank you, here is some further information:

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

VEGAS Version & Build
Version 17.0 (Build 421) Trial

Windows Edition & Version
Windows 10 Pro version 1903

Camera/App that created your footage
It is a Sony FDR-AX33 Handycam

Your Delivery Destination
Internal/External. YouTube, Social Media etc.

Exact symptoms of your problem
I am able to load up Vegas, including import media. However, once I import the media (It is an MP4 file) it's still responsive until I drag it from Project Media into the Video Track. After that, the Frames area under the video preview starts loading (does this: .....) and then it becomes completely unresponsive.

However, we just tried dragging something rather than a video from "Generated Media" and it still crashed.

When it hangs, does your screen look like this?

Yes it does, however, you have a bunch of clips in there already. My project is blank and once I put anything inside the tracks, it freezes and then after a few seconds the screen looks like this.

It's a known issue,

1. Upgrade to your latest graphics drivers.

2. If that doesn't completely fix it, disable GPU Acceleration of Video Processing in Preferences.

If switching off GPU acceleration in VP help, you can try to switch it on again but switch off GPU decoder on File I/O tad in preferences and/or disable so4.

See the FAQ section for details.

Thank you! I disabled GPU Acceleration of Video Processing and I have not experienced a crash since! Here's hoping it stays this way!

Only downside is some of your GPU optimized plugins may preview slower. It won't affect the render (except to keep it from crashing).
