I need an 10bit 422 intermediary codec to export from Resolve 17 into Vegas 19 Edit...

I only use Vegas for one thing, to encode Prores on Windows 10. Thanks,

@h-j

New users are sometimes unaware of the the options available in Vegas, since some of them are hidden for legacy purposes, or the fact that much of the information on the internet is outdated.

  • Vegas has always been able to use the DNxHD / DNxHR LE Codecs from Avid, and even work with the Alpha channel. You must install the codec package and enable Legacy Quicktime support in the Deprecated Features tab in Vegas.
  • Vegas 19 (recent versions) now have full Apple ProRes implementation, I believe; there were a couple of small issues with certain templates since the feature was introduced a while back.

Also I am finding out that Vegas has not even officially licensed Prores from Apple? So it's just some kind of hack to support it?

Vegas has incorporated Apple's code and has official ProRes support now. https://www.cined.com/vegas-pro-19-update-now-supports-apple-prores-codec/

MagicYUV works well in Vegas though may not be available in Resolve. What about Edius Grassvalley HQX codec? https://www.edius.net/hqx.html

I was not able to get DNxHR import to work in any way.

Resolve did not encode Grassvalley HQX to 10-bit for some reason. Only 8-bit.

Was able to get a refund on my purchase of Vegas.

DNxHR should work if enable Quicktime is checked on preferences/deprecated features and the Quicktime plugin is installed. I don't really recommend it though as it's an old 32-bit plugin and has limits to how many clips can be used.

I can confirm that it does work. I just dropped some 4K DNxHR footage on the Vegas timeline and it seems to be playing off the timeline well after enabling that depreciated feature. (I probably already have Quicktime installed on my machine).

Could be a good feature request for a future update to not have to use that legacy plugin to handle this codec.
