Vegas Pro 16 - Major Problem

Ruby888 wrote on 3/22/2020, 11:16 AM

I am having nothing but problems with Vegas Pro 16. I used it for a long time no issues, then nothing but problems on WIn 10, MSI i7 laptop. Nvidia GTX1070, 16 GB Ram 6 GB Video Ram. I uninstalled it using Revo, reset it and it crashes and gets stuck rendering. I use video from my Samsung S9. I am now using Movie Studio 16 with no problems. Any idea whats going on?

Yes, but we need more information.

Have you tried temporarily turning off "GPU Acceleration of Video Processing" in Preferences?

Maybe S9 video. Likely variable frame rate. Can try to transcode it or shoot with proper video standard -i.e. fixed frame rate.

But the OP says there's no problem with VMS16. Maybe a full reset https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/ might help. Although it looks as though this may already have been tried. No harm in trying another reset but it's important the cached application data is deleted by ticking the box.

I can try converting it.

Did 3 resets, 2 uninstalls with Revo, and clean installs. Magix Movie Studio 16 Platinum works perfect.

Why don't you try posting the file properties that were requested?

Silly as it may sound, we ask this of everyone.

I just turned it on, to Nvidia. Now it works, go figure!

Your video is variable frame rate. No guessing needed.

It opens in MSP 16 because that release supports variable frame rate.

It does not open reliably in Vegas Pro 16 because that version does not support variable frame rate. It should work in Vegas Pro 17.

You can use something like Handbrake or Happy Otter Scripts for Vegas Pro to convert your footage to constant frame rate.

Feel free to post back with further questions; but first, read the articles in their entirety.

Ok, so if I use Handbrake, I opened a video in Handbrake, I can't find anything about bit rate in Handbrake. I never needed to do this before, my S9 video always worked in Vegas up until last week.

@Ruby888

You may be able to re-wrap your footage and covert it to constant frame rate (CFR) using the ImportAssist tool of HappyOtterScripts. If it works, you can avoid transcoding which always results in some quality loss.

I'd be happy to take a look if you could upload some sample footage,since I don't have any S9 footage. All I have is some sample S8 HEVC VFR footage, but not S9.

Upload to dropbox, onedrive or some other file sharing site and post the link here. This Magix site re-encodes the files and defeats your purpose.

@Ruby888

John's right. It MUST be direct from the camera.

I downloaded your file and opened it in Vegas Pro 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 17. I rendered it without incident from Vegas Pro 13-453.

Here's a demo converting your s9 footage to CFR and importing into Vegas 16 using the ImportAssist tool in HappyOtterScripts.
