Hi,

I have very problem when I editing my files with new files from Canon R7.

My pc spec: Ryzen 3800x; 32 gb ram; zotac geforce rtx 3050.

I shoot in 4K 50 FPS - 10 bit - 4:2:2 HEVC IPB or 4K Fine 25 FPS. but also 10 bit 4:2:2 HEVC IPB.

Only solution is make a proxy files.. but it's take way more time for this.. any solution for this problem with preview lag?

this is a very annoying problem.. I was hoping when vegas 20 arrived, the problem would sold out but.. no.

Any solution for this?

I read/watch many videos and try very different solution in settings but the problem is the same.

Very weird, but when added my DJI Air 2 S files when i shoot 4K 25 fps 10 bit but 4:2:0 have no problem with preview lag.

As you can see, its the added 50 FPS and the 4:2:2 color-space that saps more processing power / resources from Vegas that leads to the lags. The Proxy option is currently the solution when this happens.

Vegas handles media processing a bit differently than other NLE's.

+1 @Steve_Rhoden

I also have the Canon R7, along with the Canon R6. I shoot both using CLOG-3, HEVC, 4K Fine (UHD) 29.970. You can see my computer specs in signature.

I prefer to use Shutter Encoder and transcode the files to Apple ProRes 422, as having only one monitor - lack of screen "real estate" - using proxies is tough for my eyes. But either proxy or transcode, I can edit quite "Smooth". I do this with GoPro Hero 7, 9, and 10 Black files, that are all in the GoPro H265 HEVC CODEC - again, all are 4K, 5K, or 5.3K 30p - though I tend to drop the transcode to 422 LT. And if I do happen to use proxies, it is quite easy to switch the "Preview" to Good/Best - Auto for color correction/grading, then back to Proxy mode for further editing. Been doing this since, especially with GoPro's for quite some years now editing with either VEGAS Pro, or the previous Movie Studio Platinum's.

Guess if the GoPro Owner(s)/Developer(s) had kept the Cineform codec and up to date, we would still be using the old GoPro Studio to convert to Cineform .avi format.

Yep, this may take a while to do (proxies or transcode), take up more room on drives (at least way cheaper than they used to be), but in the long run "Less Pain, More Gain".

Only solution is make a proxy files.

That is correct. Or an Intermediate file, which is used as a replacement during render, too.

The problem with your playback is the same problem you have with building your proxies. Vegas is forcing HEVC SO4 decoder, which is only single threaded, it is not able to use most of your CPU. If Vegas could use the legacy decoder for your file I'd tell you to use that, the benefit being, it can use all of your CPU for decoding during Rendering and proxy generation. It will also be able to use all of your CPU for playback, but that still won't be enough to help with playback of HEVC 422 10bit 4K in Vegas.

For this reason it will be faster to create your optimized media (transcodes) or proxies outside of Vegas

My test file was from R5,
