Vegas Pro and Movie Studio both crash when importing mp4 files

My system freezes up (crashes) with both the latest versions for Movie Studio 17(build 221) and Vegas Pro 18 (build 527).

They crash when attempting to import MP4 files. I do all my videography with the MP4 format.

I have better luck with Movie Studio build 143 but it also has the problem intermittently so I hit save after every couple of edits.

The only reason I purchased Vegas Pro 18 was with the hope that it would solve the problem to no avail.

I would like to download an earlier version of Vegas Pro but I can't find one.

Please Help!

What kind of MP4 file? That's just a container. Are they supported in Vegas? Please answer using MediaInfo: https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

The same files work with previous versions of the software so I don't think issue has to do the type of wrapper or container.

I have the same problem with both the latest versions for Movie Studio 17 (build 221) and Vegas Pro 18 (build 527). Movie Studio (build 143) works with the same files.

In order to help you, we need to figure out why they work for you in one version, but not another.

In order to do that, we need to know what is inside the files.

The request for full file properties is not trivial, because no one is able to give a meaningful reply without them. Or, if you'd like us to guess endlessly without any factual basis, there are a few novices here who will be glad to oblige you.

If you choose to use the Magix support portal instead, they will ask you for exactly the same informatioon. Your choice.

What's in the container determines how Vegas decodes it, whether the GPU helps with the decode, etc. As MusicVid states these details are not optional for understanding why there is a problem on this system.

In addition to that, what's your CPU and GPU model? In VP 18 did you go to help/driver update and update graphics drivers if requested to?
