Vegas Pro Versions 16 or 18?

OS: Windows 10 20H2(2009)

Hardware: Asus MB, Intel i9, Nvidia RTX series, 32 GB RAM

Software I have: Vegas Pro 9, Vegas Movie Studio 16 Platinum (Vegas Movie Studio series, now EOL)

As a user of Vegas Products, I see that I can upgrade to VP18 edit (VP19 included later). I could also pick up a copy of VP16 from several legitimate 3rd party vendors for roughly the same price.

Question: Perhaps VP18 is pretty stable with little issues, but I've wondered if some of the earlier versions, like VP16, are more stable. I definitely need stability without a lot of fiddling around and the ability to work well with Windows updating.

Any opinions ?

Thanks, Mike

VEGAS 18 and 19 have performance improvements that 16 won't have due to having additional development time, so i'd go with that. VEGAS has gotten more stable over the years, not less.

@fr0sty

Thanks. I suppose it does make sense to go with VP18. I think the only drawback would be that VP18 edit doesn't have the ability to burn DVD's with menus (didn't VP 16 have that??). I may not need that function.

The key player here is format support, not stability. Get 18 with the upgrade. Stability issues were very much present in 16 too, and as is always the case, settled down after a few minor updates.

I’ve run 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, and 18. I skipped 16.

Thanks folks. Good to hear from some ol' timers (no offense). Your replies (including Musicvid) are like badges of honor. ;)

18 is really a refinement of 16/17. So things that didn't work as well in 16 (decoding for newer formats with the so4compound decoder) is far better and more stable in 18. It also now leverages the GPU for decoding freeing up CPU resources. I expect 19 will continue that trend so no reason to look backwards.

I ran 12, 15, 16, 17 and 18 and only use the final build of 18 now. If you have DVD architect, it still works.
