VEGAS running slow and crashing, but for an odd reason.

In my Vegas pro 16 timeline I have an MP4/MP3 file (gameplay) and and MP3 file (my commentary). I don't face any problems with freezing or slowing down until I import my commentary, I guess it is because there is too much on the timeline? The problem I am facing is delays when I press my spacebar to watch the playback and if I move around the timeline too much the program will crash. I have to work at turtle speed in order to make the software run optimally.

I also recently upgraded my GPU in hopes to see improvements (I had it suggested to me that I do so from this forum) and did not.

My PC specs are

-Intel Core i5-7400

- NVIDIA GeForce 1650 (upgraded from a 960 recently)

- 500GB SSD / 2TB HDD

- 16GB DDR4 RAM

Any suggestion settings or adjustments, or even PC upgrades would be much appreciated.

if it is just the audio causing the issue, maybe try to convert it to a wav file instead to see if that helps. maybe the mp3 is corrupt or something.
