Video preview stops working after using another program

If I pause my editing in Vegas and use another program for a while, such as browsing the web, or if the PC goes to sleep, when I resume editing often, but not always, the video preview fails to update the screen when I click Play. The audio works and the cursor moves but the preview monitor is frozen at the first frame. Yet if I drag the cursor or scrub it does change as it should. V15 and V17.

To get it working again all I need to do is open the Options/preferences and close it. No need to change anything. Any ideas whats going on here? Not a major issue but so anoying!

The setting in Preferences to close media when not the active application can be unchecked. That's what's causing your delay.

It is unchecked. I know what you mean about closed files causing a delay. It's not a delay, it is a failure of the video to update. The audio plays and the cursor moves.
