VP17 Imports 1 audio track from a video file containing 2 audio tracks

Devaizter wrote on 12/7/2020, 9:16 AM

Hello everyone! My first post here! :)

I have an issue I stumbled upon and I was hoping that someone might help me out with it.

I have an MP4 video file in HEVC format that has 2 audio tracks which are both AAC LC. MediaInfo confirms this as well.

When I imported the file to Vegas Pro 17 Build 452 (Latest) a message appeared and said "HEVC has been successfully activated!".

The file is now on the timeline but it shows/imported only 1 audio track Instead of 2.

How do I fix it and make all audio tracks to appear?

My Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i9 7900 X-Series

GPU: Gigabyte AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Waterforce Xtreme Edition 11GB GDDR5X

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (16x2) DDR4 3000MHz CL15

Operation System: Microsoft Windows 10 Professional 64 Bit English (Latest Update)

Thank you!

Devaizter / Igor.

"two channels on 1 track" a two-channel stereo (left & right) audio event

FWIW, there is a preference option to import interleaved stereo audio to two separate tracks, which would be useful if two separate mics (host and guest for instance) was recorded to a stereo file.

altarvic wrote on 12/7/2020, 11:14 AM

If VEGAS shows 2 audio streams in the media properties, you can add mp4 file to a new track and manually select the second stream

Devaizter wrote on 12/7/2020, 12:32 PM

That's not the case I'm having, It shows only 1 Track with only 1 Channel. I tried to import another MP4 file which has 2 audio tracks and it successfully put all 2 audio tracks separately on the timeline (this file format is AVC though).

I tried other MP4 AVC files and they all work as they should, but MP4 files with HEVC format only shows 1 track & 1 channel on the timeline.

That is not what I'm seeing with a 4K HEVC file from my GoPro 7 Black, look

Vegas normally does not like VFR video. You might have to convert that to fixed.

Frame rate mode                          : Variable
Frame rate                               : 60.000 FPS
Minimum frame rate                       : 54.778 FPS
Maximum frame rate                       : 67.568 FPS

But it loads correctly in VP18 here with both audio tracks. I will test it on another PC I have which runs VP17

I tested the file on VP17 build 452 and it imports only the first audio track. An alternative would be to extract the audio stream with FFmpeg or VLC and add it as separate audio file to your project.

Here is the FFmpeg command to extract the missing audio track from your video file. It will create a .mp4 file which will contains only track #2. Add it back to your project. Replace the input filename as needed.

ffmpeg -i "Preview File.mp4" -map 0:2 track2.mp4

I do get that ugly green bar at the top of the preview screen, though.

j-v wrote on 12/8/2020, 11:16 AM

I agree @rraud and @Illusion.
I tried on laptop in VMS17 Pl, VPro 17 and VPro 18 and saw this
VMS 17 Pl

VP17

VP 18

My proposal to @Devaizter if he really want to have those different audiotracks is to try VPro 18 latest build.
