VP19 Vegas Stream

@Phil_P, Vegas Stream is a no-frills streaming application, kind of an "Obs Lite," but way better in some respects.

The number of controls over streaming and recording are limited, arguably on purpose.

The biggest advantage is that it's quick to get on-air and simple enough for kids to run the booth. A/B webcams, mic, audio, and b-roll tracks, that seems where it is at its best.

Those are my impressions anyway, and it is in no way intended to compete with OBS>

Absolutely, for me that sums it up perfectly and I agree with your impressions 100%.

And also very refreshing that you did that, while not insisting on giving me advice on how to stream (whether you agreed with my methods or not).

I am extremely happy with Vegas 19 itself btw.

Thanks again. P.

@Musicvid thanks for your thoughts on Stream. I am working with people who are not "tech savy" and I would want to leave that part of work to them. I have enough managing the sound of both the livestream and in the chapel.

They've gotten used to OBS (me keeping it simple) where they know how to use it. But my eyes are always looking for ways to improve the stream look. With OBS, you can send presentation software text on one computer to OBS on another computer. The presentation software is run by one person displaying the text, while the OBS person goes between cameras. Is Stream capable of this?

I installed the demo version of Stream. The Atem Mini connects to it and audio is also working. That's good.

Next question is, how many instances can it be used? I believe that Vegas Pro can be installed on 2 machines. Does Stream allow this? Because installing the demo of it, I only installed Stream and it said that VP has to be installed also.

Stream requires the VEGAS 365 activation. I don't recall if it's a separate serial number. But VEGAS 365 only allows activation on 1 machine.

@Reyfox I can give it a shot for you once I get home.

@Reyfox, works on both computers, streaming simultaneously to two different streams.

Yes, Vegas Post 365, which includes Stream and Image, requires a separate serial number. You cannot activate it in Pro Edit, for instance.

I'm a fan because it's simple and quick to get on-air.

I have a far more complex streaming / recording setup integrating OBS, Voicemeeter, Cantabile, and Toneboosters Barricade, and also use it with Zoom. Having spent all that time and effort setting it up, I run it with a batch command.

But for the rest of the crowd, who just wants to get on-air and isn't interested in bragging rights, I see great potential in Vegas Stream as a mainstream alternative to OBS.

@Pete THANKS!!!!!

@jetdv it isn't listed in the Vegas Pro 365, but in Pro, see link and scroll to the bottom:

So am I wrong in assuming that I do not need 365?

@Musicvid thanks for your input. I've looked over at NBFX Vividcast to see if I can get a little more information since it's similar to Vegas Stream. VS offers certainly better titling built in where you do not have to add plugins. I had the demo of VS running at home and was using Atem Mini with no problems.

I also wrote to NBFX asking about adding lyrics to the stream since they had on their webpage, House of Worship, and showing Bible text. So waiting to hear back from them. I would get Vegas Edit if not for Stream. I have Boris Continuum Complete 2021, so really do not need Primatte. Sound Forge Studio I can pass on too.

@Reyfox, honestly I don't know. I thought it was only a part of 365 but it may not be.

@jetdv Vegas Edit fits my needs and wallet perfectly. Stream is the only thing in Pro I am interested in. NewBlueFX has an expensive subscription to their version of Stream and from what I have read, they are basically the same.

I can see where this can be confusing. Vegas Stream a one time purchase if you get a perpetual license, while VividCast costs a lot per month......

The same with AI text to speech, my Vegas Edit license won't allow me to use it, would have been a great chance to upsell users to the Pro version, I can see Vegas TTS being a great tool, but I'm never going to get addicted to using it because I never was able to use it

Reyfox wrote on 8/22/2021, 1:23 PM

@Former user since text to speech is only available thru Pro subscription, I've only on rare occasions have had to use a voice over. Stock footage is something I do not use either. My cellphone is basically just that. No need to send mobile to timeline for me, but I can see where people would do this, just not me. Primatte is good if you do a lot of green screen. I have Continuum Complete 2021, which includes Primatte Studio. The only reason for me to go with Vegas Pro is Stream.

Is it worth the change to the Pro subscription? Honestly, not for me. Will I "bite the bullet" and get Vegas Pro? Probably. I am testing the trial version now.

It's very confusing what they're selling now, so text to speech doesn't come with vegas pro?

It comes with Vegas Pro subscription and is that different to Vegas365 or is Vegas 365 now Vegas Pro subscription with term Vegas 365 meaning subscription and they come in the same variants as perpetual license. I do like the cloud based AI, I'm assuming it's done on Vegas's servers in the same way Adobe Photoshop AI is done on Adobe servers although Vegas black and white to color AI doesn't use their servers.

I get the feeling they didn't really need to use their servers to do text to speech, but it's a way to force you to buy subscription versions

VEGASDerek wrote on 8/22/2021, 7:30 PM

Colorization does not use cloud services, but rather Intel's OpenVino technology. The colorization is handled via models which are statically installed. Text to Speech uses Microsoft Cognitive Services (and thus needs an internet connection) which we pay a charge for each use. As a result, the feature is not financially viable without a consistent revenue stream such as a subscription.

Everyone complains about Adobe's subscription only model, but they have committed heavily into cloud services, much more than we have to this point. They probably had no choice but to be subscription only.

We decided to keep offering VEGAS with a perpetual license but without the cloud services so those who really don't need those cloud features can continue to use VEGAS without the monthly fee.
