Weird issue with 4k proxy files from Panasonic G85

plehi wrote on 4/8/2017, 11:57 AM

In Movie Studio 13 when I add 4k mp4 clips from the G85 to the project Vegas automatically creates proxies. The problem is the video portion of the clip is several times longer than audio and the extra portion consists entirely of the very last frame. Basically it's just a still image. The excess can be trimmed manually but having to do this for each clip individually is very time consuming.

Is there a setting that can be adjusted to prevent this or is it just a matter of Vegas and Panasonics 4k files not being fully compatible. If it's the latter are there any other solutions?

Thanks.

I can remember I had the same thing with 4k files from the Panasonic FZ300, but only when the files were 24p. No problem when they were 25p or 30p. Which framerate are yours?

How are you adding the files to Vegas?

Use Device Explorer or the software that came with the camera.

Unfortunately, Windows Explorer is GOP-agnostic.

The frame rate is 24p on a 1080p/24fps timeline.

I click on the "Add Media..." button, then double-click the file.

Than, I assume that this is a bug or misinterpretation of MS13 of 4kp24. I have not tested if this also happens in VMS14.

This sounds like the same bug as this, which was fixed in Vegas Pro 14. So presumably it's also fixed in Movie Studio 14. There are no publicly available release notes that I know of, so I can't be sure. It affected 23.976fps and 24fps footage.

Indeed Nick, this issue is also fixed in MS14, I just tested it with 4kp24 from my Panasonic FZ300.
