White screen when trying to view on second monitor

MartinH wrote on 3/31/2021, 11:36 AM

Hi Everyone,

I bought Vegas 365 yesterday as an upgrade t ne v17 and so far I am not impressed at all - at best it is glitchy. The latest issue is when I click view on external monitor all I get is a white screen.

From my other issue yesterday I have already reset Vegas 18 and updated the video driver.

If I use version 17 - it works fine.

Anyone else had this? if so do you know how to fix it?

many thanks

The question is, "How are you connecting your external monitor?" If by HDMI, have you tried unplugging and replugging the cable? Are your video drivers up to date?

Instructions for resetting Vegas are here:

Thanks for taking the time reply it is appreciated. This is a second monitor to my PC. Both are connected via HDMI.

As I mentioned I have already done a reset and updated the video driver. As I had (and still have a problem) with clicking on a specific clip on my timeline and Vegas crashing.

I tried unplugging and plugging in and got the same result. The screens are identical and the options identify the screen correctly if that help

This still works fine in v17 Vegas.

Any ideas would be very welcome.

I just tried on VP18b482 and it seems to be working well here.

I have used Vegas Pro 18 on my PC with two LG 4K monitors and I have used either one to view my projects externally, I have no problems. I’m sorry that you’re having problems, mate. Perhaps show us your settings in VEGAS Pro for previewing on an external monitor. There might be a logical reason for the white screen.

I’m using VEGAS Pro 18 (Build 482).

Thanks for getting in touch. i assume its not a usual problem as everyone would be having it I guess

I have attached a screenshot of the preview device tab

Let me kwn if it is anything obvious.

i will change some settings to see if it makes a difference i may uninstall and reinstall if nothing else works!

RogerS wrote on 4/2/2021, 7:45 AM

Maybe return the settings to defaults? Mine are somewhat different.

MartinH wrote on 4/2/2021, 8:11 AM

Hi again,

I have reset the program again and these are the defaults it comes up with in preview device:-

Still a white screen.

So I deactivated - uninstalled vegas rebooted. Installed vergas again - rebooted - activated vegas. Still a lank white screen when using external preview device :-(

RogerS wrote on 4/2/2021, 8:18 AM

Can you show us what help/driver update says? What GPU(s) do you have and what kind is connected to the external device.

(I'm on a laptop here with external monitor and it's working.)

MartinH wrote on 4/2/2021, 9:51 AM

Thanks for the continued help - I do appreciate it.

Attached is the screen shot from Help > Software update

The GPU's detected are:-

My video cards are:-

And the mystery is that is works fine in version 17. I have even uninstalled v17 in case that was conflicting. It still the same white screen

RogerS wrote on 4/2/2021, 10:16 AM

Okay, maybe we're getting somewhere. With each version of Vegas the supported hardware requirements get stricter.

Vegas min. specs are:

AMD/ATI® Radeon with 4GB and VCE 3.0 or higher (Radeon Pro series with 8GB for HDR and 32 bit projects)

This card appears to meet the specs, but can you confirm the amount of ram, etc.?
Since Vegas can't find the driver can you head over to AMD and get the latest Pro/Enterprise driver for it if there is one for this card?

RogerS wrote on 4/2/2021, 10:18 AM

When you say you did a reset, you mean you held down control + shift on startup and were prompted to clear the cache?

MartinH wrote on 4/2/2021, 10:45 AM

Hi Roger,

Yes i did a reset by holding Control and shift and clicked on clear the cache. I have installed the latest AMD drivers - they were from 31st March this year.

The card has 4GB RAM.

Well, technically it should be working. But unfortunately Vegas Pro doesn’t work fine on every system, as it seems to appear.....well not as well as it should. I hope we can get to the bottom of this with you.

This thread is marked resolved but it is not resolved?

One other idea is under graphics settings to add Vegas Pro 18 to work with the high performance Radeon card:

MartinH wrote on 4/3/2021, 3:03 AM

Hi to both of you, I don't know how it got marked as resolves but it is not unfortunately. I do appreciate your help. - do either of you work for Magix?

Anyway I have set the graphics options as suggested by Roger :-

And I rebooted to make sure the setting was changed. When I go into vegas and click on show on external monitor..............

IT WORKS!

Thanks to all of you so much for your help with this and for your patience with the thread. i was going to get a refund on my subscription as you don't know how much you missed something until you can't use it anymore.

Many thanks again.

Regards

Martin

Hi Martin, I’m glad @RogerS suggestion was able to solve your problem. It can be frustrating when we have problems that don’t make any sense, which is why it’s even more amazing when we can finally get it fixed. I’m happy for you, mate. I hope you have a great day (I don’t know what timezone you are, but it’s 7:25pm over here for this Aussie in Australia)! Happy editing in VEGAS Pro 18! It’s a great update (I upgraded from Vegas Pro 15 Edit to Vegas Pro 18 (the middle option, not Edit or Suite) and I’ve been enjoying it. No buyers remorse here.

Oh, and by the way, I don’t work for MAGIX, just to answer your question. But the VEGAS team have certainly made the VEGAS suite of software great under MAGIX. It’s awesome! 👍🏻😁

Thanks again for your help. I hope Magix realise what a fantastic resource this is. But they should have people on the forums if this is how they do support. They nearly lost a customer - if it was not for you guys who contribute to this forum.

RogerS wrote on 4/3/2021, 7:45 AM

So glad it worked for you! I was out of other ideas. I don't work for Magix, by the way. I'm just a Vegas user.
