21gb file after 1.15 hour rendering from almost 11 min video in 4k

Brynjar-Gudmundsson wrote on 9/13/2020, 10:20 AM

I was rendering a video that is 10min and 45 sec. it took 1 hour and 15 min ... and I got 21,446 gb file out ..... why? is there not an easy way to render video? I´m working with 4k files and want to render it in 4k....using Vegas pro 365...did use Magix Intemedite 3840x2190-29.97p settings, intermediate 422, Proxy. video rendering quality, best, color space Rec. 709

Depends on the reason for rendering.
With that Intermediate codec your are rendering for other use in an edit program without any loss.
For rendering as MP4 for downloads, viewing or uploading you can better use Magix AVC or HEVC with the desired template. Renders much faster and to a smaller file.

Now I was using HEVC/AAC MP4 but pressed cancel after 1 hour .... done with 52%

Template info:

"Use this setting to create an MP4 (HEVC/AAC) file for progressive internet downloads using NVIDIA's NVENC.
Audio: 320 Kbps, 48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo, AAC
Video: 29.970 fps, 3840x2160 Progressive, NV12, 24 Mbps
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.000"

I just don't get it :(

And no one will, until you post your file properties for both your source and render.

I got down to 55 min. and 3,26 gb with these settings, which is normal size but long rendering time. Maybe normal rendering time in Vegas ;)

I did use this settings this time to create an:

MP4 (AVC/AAC) file for progressive internet downloads using NVidia's NVENC.
Audio: 384 Kbps, 48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo, AAC
Video: 29.970 fps, 3840x2160 Progressive, NV12, 44 Mbps
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.000

Max:bps: 56000000

Average bps: 44000000

RC Mode - High quality

Video rendering quality: Best

Color space: Default (Maybe i try later with Rec. 709 but not tonight :) )

Your source has a bitrate of average 38.4 Mb/s, in that case your choosen bitrate for HEVC output is much to high.

@Brynjar-Gudmundsson

"55 min. and 3,26 gb with these settings, which is normal size but long rendering time."

"Width                                    : 3 840 pixels

Bits/(Pixel*Frame)                       : 0.154"

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with that render for UHD upload to Youtube. Whether it was a "long rendering time" is a value judgement that none of us can comment on without knowing more about your system besides the fact that you have and nvidia video adapter.

@j-v

The render is not HEVC. It's AVC

HEVC would look like this:

Brynjar-Gudmundsson wrote on 9/13/2020, 2:56 PM

yes that's right👍 ...... this file I'm showing right now is the video I "managed" to render correctly, in the third attempt. Took about an hour which I think is a long time but can live with it.😁

Intermediate HQ was my no. 1 that I tried and did not work. (was a bit over 21gb at done rendering😂)
HEVC / AAC mp4 was no. 2 that I tried and did not work.(pushed cancel after 1 hour, 52% done)
AVC / AAC mp4 was no. 3 that I tried and it worked fine, slow rendering but works, about one hour ;)

Maybe this has something to do with the computer but I'm using

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-core, 3.59GHz, 16gb ram and GeForce RTX 2060 Super.

I own also MEP and VPX but wanted to go for "more powerful" software. Vegas pro has more features than VPX but is much slower and it's kind of sad......but I'm going to try to find "right" settings to have it run smoothly. So far i have not found them but I have only had Vegas pro for a month now.

Brynjar-Gudmundsson wrote on 9/13/2020, 3:05 PM

Having said that, I'm going to give Vegas pro a try for a while ..... I just find it strange that when I use VPX the playback of my film clips are completely clear and nice and without any lagging. When I use Vegas pro it is lagging and playback is blurry but once rendered the video is very nice, in top quality. I've watched some youtube videos about Vegas pro smooth settings but they are not working for me .... I am still looking for the "right" video 😇

fr0sty wrote on 9/13/2020, 3:23 PM

VEGAS Pro automatically adjusts the quality of the preview based on your system's ability to play back the video. 32GB RAM is recommended to edit 4K video, otherwise your system should be good for it.

Brynjar-Gudmundsson wrote on 9/13/2020, 3:36 PM

ok...thanks for the tips @fr0sty 👍......just remarkable that VPX doesn't even sweat on 4k playback....but Vegas Pro does...
