After VMS16 Build 158 update unable to Import mts video files

Christopher-Rogers wrote on 11/25/2019, 9:33 PM

I use Movie Studio 16 and I recently updated to Build 158 over the weekend (November 23rd) and since then, I have been having video importing issues.

Before, I would be able to import .mts files or drag and drop them into the project with no problem. Ever since I updated to Build 158 however, everytime I would try and drag and drop an .mts file, a circle with a line through it would appear and then I would try import media, and everytime I would click on the file, the whole program would crash.

The only way that I have found some MILD success is by putting the file through Windows Movie Maker (I use Windows 7) and then saving it, and then reimporting it to Vegas (I wouldn't be able to drag and drop either, I would have to import it) and while that is a solution, it's a real pain and I really can't waste time by putting it through multiple programs.

I am wondering if there is a solution to this and if so what is it. Is there a way I can revert back to the version before this update? Help!

Hi, I'm in the same mts spot as you. for the last two weeks I can't work with VMS16P.

I have an open ticket with support and I'm waiting for solutions.

Christopher-Rogers wrote on 11/25/2019, 10:34 PM

When you get a solution, can you share it with me also?

FayFen wrote on 11/25/2019, 11:21 PM

of course

EricLNZ wrote on 11/26/2019, 2:15 AM

@Christopher-Rogers @FayFen Do you have a short problem clip you could upload somewhere so others can download and try?

FayFen wrote on 12/4/2019, 12:56 AM

Magix couldn't find any proper solution till now.

It's impossible to run update2 over update3 so this morning I reload a system image I was lucky to do mid October. Now I'm back with build 142 and .mts's are back.

... But now I'm getting the update nag screen....

Does your .mts file consist of mpeg-2 or AVC? Either is a possibility.

Important to know, because there. "may" be a possible workaround.

FayFen wrote on 12/4/2019, 2:24 AM

They are AVC's from Panasonic X900m camcorder, vintage of 2012.

EricLNZ wrote on 12/4/2019, 4:15 AM

It would be helpful if one of you with the problem could upload a short clip somewhere so others could try. We could then establish whether it's a general problem or specific to your installations.

FayFen wrote on 12/4/2019, 5:25 AM

Christopher is not around, but as far as his post is correct we both run W7.

I sent Magix a file, it worked on their system, I don't know if its W7 or W10.

Musicvid wrote on 12/4/2019, 7:19 AM

Well, would Christopher, when he returns, kindly post his Vegas and MediaInfo file properties, as well as his .NET version ;?)

Looking back, users have identified and worked around at least two issues relating to decoders and runtime versions that Magix was never able to replicate ...

With the latest VMS 16 Pl build 167 no problems to import or drag the MTS files of my Panasonic X900 to the timeline of that program on desktop or laptop from signature.
Look, you can see the source specifications beneath on the Vegas explorer screen, this short video of doing that:

Well, I would post video, but, its kind of hard to do when your editing program crashes lol. I have a ticket into Magix and their recommendation showed how much intelligence they have. They recommended I update my graphics card.....*facepalm* Btw updating graphics card DIDNT WORK.

Also, I use a Sony Handycam HDR-CX240

That you are just NOT asked to do.
Only a small sourcefile as it is before you did some with it.
We than can try it out on our systems.

Christopher,

The only thing that will help us to help you are the properties explicitly requested, and/or an ORIGINAL source sample uploaded to a legitimate fileshare, not YouTube. This is thoroughly explained here.

If you are reluctant to do that, it is your choice, but be aware that Magix support team will probably request the same effort from you.

Best of luck.

EricLNZ wrote on 12/4/2019, 4:08 PM

This problem has also cropped up on CCow https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/1026298

The poster there is using Win 10 so possibly not a Win 7 problem but guys we won't get anywhere without a sample file from you as per Musicvid's post (and others).

EricLNZ wrote on 12/4/2019, 4:54 PM

I've just remembered something that occurred with my VMSPlat 16 Build 167 a few days ago. It may be related to this problem as it indicates AVCHD handling has been changed in someway.

I have no problems importing mts files but when I went to export as AVCHD using Sony AVC/MVC AVCHD template at my usual 16,000,000 bps I got a message to the effect "a feature needs to be activated", or something similar. I thought it strange as any codecs that needed unlocking would have done so in the previous build as I regularly export AVCHD. I then expected to see the usual clock progressing image as VMS phoned home to Germany and did whatever it needed to do. But no. Instead my screen went dark and Win 10 came up with the precautionary message asking whether I would allow "Launcher.exe" to proceed. After responding OK there was a second or two before my VMS project came to life and export proceeded. But my rendered file had silent audio. The track was there but nothing in it. However restarting VMS and doing a fresh export fixed that problem and my rendered file now had audio.

Christopher-Rogers wrote on 12/4/2019, 8:28 PM

In the email from support, they recommended I update the drivers on my graphics card which I did. Still had the same problem. I just sent a reply back saying that after updating the drivers and restarting, I still have the same problem. I included a screenshot of what comes up and I figured I would do the same here so yall would be able to see exactly what I'm seeing also.

In the pic, this would be after I would try to drag the video into Vegas and being unsuccessful I would then click add media, and then find the video file, double click it, and then the report problem box would come up and Vegas would crash. I already sent multiple reports in but I don't know if they go to Magix (probably not).

I believe the reports go direct to the Vegas team. Unfortunately your screengrab doesn't tell us anything. Also please upload images direct to the forum here, not to an external site. The button for uploading is highlighted as below.

We await a sample mts file uploaded somewhere so other users can download and try to see if they experience your problem.

FayFen wrote on 12/4/2019, 11:50 PM

Eric, I was expecting this "codec to be activated" once I didn't get them to load, but it never pop up.

**The bug fix for 167 list "Now allow 3, 4 or 5 channel audio files to be read into the application"

They might forgot about channels 1 & 2.... I do only 2channels mts's.

@FayFen My Canon mts are only two channel audio. Any chance you could upload a sample file somewhere? Just a few seconds of your kitchen sink would suffice if your usual material isn't something you'd wish to share.

Here's something from my camera.

See if you can open it. If not check you have the following dll in your VMS program folder.

EricLNZ wrote on 12/5/2019, 3:08 AM

@FayFen Oops I've just realised my above post is pointless as you've gone back to an earlier version!

j-v wrote on 12/5/2019, 4:00 AM

For comparisons you may use a MTS file from my Panasonic X900 with this MediaInfo, those files gives nowhere and in none of all my Vegas programs any problem.

To try out here is that file in my dropbox during 14 days: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lu9eh7zhl5onrfr/00041.mts?dl=0

Thanks @j-v Your file gives no problems in my VMSPlat 16 Build 167. So it's not a universal problem but peculiar to some installations.
