Audio Video not in sync after importing Vegas 20

mud wrote on 12/22/2022, 9:45 AM

This issue has occurred multiple times but I have compensated with shifting the audio to match the video but it has started occurring again and again. I record gameplays using GeForce Experience and the file AV is in perfect sync but as soon as I import it in Vegas and watch it in the Preview Window it is out of sync. Please Help, what should I do?

OBS capture works well in Vegas, when configured sensibly, of course. For help with your captured files, start here. You may need to run them through Shutter Encoder or Handbrake.

I am sorry if this question is dumb but I just imported other files, they seem to be in sync. But this specific file is out of sync only when imported. Does this mean that this specific file has something wrong with it?

@Musicvid I found the solution, I just went to preferences and File I/O and checked legacy AVC decoding, working well now. Sorry if this was obvious. I am new to this. Thank you for responding though. Appreciate the help!

@mud: would you be able to provide a sample clip where you are seeing this sync problem? We would like to make sure the new AVC decoder is working properly to avoid users having to turn on the legacy one.

mud wrote on 12/22/2022, 10:57 AM

@VEGASDerek I can provide the clip of the original video and the same video in the preview window when legacy is unchecked, if that will suffice?

VEGASDerek wrote on 12/22/2022, 12:02 PM

We simply need a piece of media that demonstrates the problem. We can then load in VEGAS and debug the decoder to see why the audio is getting out of sync

@VEGASDerek Here is the attached clip that demonstrates the problem.

Here is a link for it as well.

It plays out of sync even outside vegas, looks like you have uploaded the out of sync rendered file from vegas.

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

13th gen i913900K - water cooled, 96GB RAM, 4TB M2 drive, 4TB games SSD, 2TB video SSD, GPU RTX 4080 Super, Windows 11 pro

@andyrpsmith No I have not. The problem was the original recorded file is in sync. As soon as it's imported into vegas, the preview shows it's out of sync and hence renders are out of sync as well. This clip though, is the original recorded file, not a rendered one.

Ahh, a teachable moment. Welcome to the forums.

This is not "the original recorded file," It has been processed and re-encoded from your upload by AWS servers. Much like Youtube, it is of no use when someone requests your original. It is useful only as a visual reference, not for the deeper analysis that Derek wishes.

The above link you provided points to the original file, as Google Drive does not process or re-encode your uploads; they are intact, contain all of the original file properties and metadata, and are useful for subsequent analysis, which is what was wanted.

It is not unusual for new users to not know the difference, but keep in mind when someone asks for your original, the link to Drive or Dropbox is all that is needed. If you just want to show us something visually, the Forum Upload or Youtube is usually fine. Again, thanks for your post.

@Musicvid Thanks a lot for pointing that out, I understand. So, what I meant was, the file that one sees in the preview window, is not a file rendered from vegas as someone said above, it is the recorded one just imported. Ik for a fact, the original one isn't unsynced.

When I say recorded I mean the recorded gameplay that I have, not the one that I posted.

Thank you for correcting me.

No worries.

Now, if I play the file you uploaded to the forum server, it is horrible out of sync. That is the reason for @andyrpsmith's confusion, and is surely cause to re-examine your capture methods and protocols, whether or not a decoder change in Vegas helps. Again, if you would like to try OBS, we are glad to help.

@Musicvid Alright then, I will uncheck legacy and record with OBS and check out whether the problem still persists. For GeforceExperience recordings, legacy works better.

Former user wrote on 12/23/2022, 11:14 PM

@mud It plays in sync with Resolve in the cut window, but it goes out of sync in the edit window. Also of note is how the video doesn't play smoothly, that's very unusual for Resolve with a resolution so low. There's something wrong with your file I think. Yes, try OBS instead.

mud wrote on 12/23/2022, 11:55 PM

@Former user Yeah I got it. Thanks a lot for testing this out. I will use OBS from now on for sure. Thanks again!

I don't know about your decoder settings... the default works fine for me.
