I need to convert AVI files to MP4 or any format that Vegas Pro 15 will read and edit.

Handbrake will do this quite well. It's free, just download.

Post MediaInfo for your AVI files. It may be as simple as downloading a single codec, but never install a codec "pack."

I use Shutter Encoder.for my batch conversions...... Free and very versatile.
