Does Vegas Pro have music creation options with VSTi and MIDI ?

Bryan_Clarkson wrote on 10/16/2017, 3:40 PM

After doing some research on google, I have discovered that Vegas Pro does have some good audio editing capabilities.

But what about music creation options ?

For example, can I use VSTi instruments with all the MIDI editing capabilities ,right inside of Vegas Pro ?

If this is not yet supported, then is the Vegas Pro team already working to implement those features in Vegas Pro ?

I believe it is a WIP.

The main man gave some brief responses early this year, starting here. So we know it's on their radar.

There was also some discussion a few months ago here.

After reading Gary's (the main man) response, I'd say that midi and vsti support in Vegas will be a long time coming, if ever. It would be nice but there are so many things that would have to be added that I don't see it happening. I use Reaper as my main audio multitrack and midi app and it's very Vegas like in many ways, but very richly developed as a DAW, understanding loops and tempo and midi sequencing etc. I own Sonar as well, which also has a rich feature set, but I end up going back to Reaper for many of the same reasons that I prefer to edit Video in Vegas... it's just more fun and direct. I do prefer Vegas over Reaper for doing straight audio editing but I've tried using Vegas as a multitrack recorder and it does work but lacks too many of the little things that are specific to modern Multitrack DAW's.

Magix is developing a new version of Acid Pro which already has MIDI. It should be released 'shortly' (whatever that means)

FWIW, Reaper was modeled on Vegas' audio by Justin Frankel of Winamp fame. It evolved into a significant DAW with regular updates, add-ons and enhancements.. unlike Vegas' audio which has been mostly stagnant. I requested OMF (and/or AAF that works), side-chaining, ect since v2, all of which fell on deaf ears at SCS. Personally MIDI is not a must have for me, but is for many.

I think that they should take all the features from Acid Pro and put it into Vegas Pro.

And also all the other new modern technologies of today when it comes down to audio.

Being able to do all these things right inside of Vegas Pro would be very helpful, then I do not have to go to another software application just for audio and music creation.

Thumbs up for that 😉 !
