How to a create boundary line over a tracking high drone shot?

Philuk wrote on 3/24/2022, 6:05 AM

Hello,

I'm trying to add a red boundary line to a high moving drone shot using motion control. I don't suppose anyone can point me to a tutorial which can help me out?

Cheers

Phil

Something like this in the video link below but over a live action image not a graphic.

Is it possible to use 'fusion' . Built into blackmagic 'resolve'. An ae alternative. There is a free version of resolve & utube tutorials on fusion.

@Philuk  ... The uploaded video demonstrates travel route animation in 3D - and it is excellent - but your original post was about a red boundary line. From that, I envisaged something like the drone footage was of an aerial shot of a property for sale and that the red boundary line was to identify the perimeters of that property - or something like that.

It would be really good if you could refer back to MusicVid's comment and "upload your video with a detailed description or illustration of what you wish to do". Even uploading a still from your drone footage would be helpful along with a detailed description would be great.

Yes Dexcon, it's a drone shot following a route, sadly due to confidentiality and a NDA I can't show you any images. In a nutshell its a fly over at 50m/180ft height of a location identifying land boundary.

Dexcon wrote on 3/29/2022, 6:15 AM

Thank you for clarifying the circumstances and that it is a land boundary border that is wanted. If you have the current version of Mocha Pro, you could overlay a .png still image of a red border and use Mocha Pro's corner pinning to track and therefore adjust in 3 dimension space that .png over the video event. The big problem with this is that there will need to be significant visual 'points' at all the corners of the property's boundary in order for Mocha Pro's corner pinning to grab onto for tracking. If the corner of the property is amid indefinable grassland, there'll be nothing to 'grab' on to.

If this is the case, it might need to be done manually. I've not used Fusion (difficult learning curve) but HitFilm Express (free) is very good for X.Y.Z space and keyframing, so a .png could be positioned by keyframing manually though it will no doubt be a pain to do so.

Going back to the video that you've uploaded, notice that it did rely on manually adding keypoints/nodes for the position changes - which is not out of the ordinary for travel route animation.

Yes I thought it might be end up as a long winded animation, very helpful non the less, thanks Dexcon

Take a look at Route Generator -- http://www.routegenerator.net/index.html -- which might well do the job for you.
