How to know Magic YUV correct rendering settings for my video?

oscarleethr25 wrote on 2/19/2019, 9:47 AM

Hi. Im trying to use Magic YUV codec to render my video. I'm using the default settings. The problem is that the resulting video has a different color than the original. I feel that the problem lies in the "compression and input settings" window, but I dont know how to set it right. How can I know what is the correct setting? I just want to render my video in the highest (and correct) quality posible with Magic YUV.

As I say, I'm using the Magic YUV default settings, the only thing that I changed was the number of threads,

but I already had the problem before that. I would also like to clarify that this is not the typical problem in which your video is seen with more contrast than in the vegas preview.

Thank you and greetings from México.

What are the properties of your source file (see MediaInfo report)?

And which Vegas version and which build do you use?

My guess is your video is decoded by Quicktime and thus there is a luma range/color difference. If so it would not be the render process which causes the issue but the decoding process of your source file.

This should not happen with Vegas Pro 15 or 16, latest builds.

¿Y qué versión de Vegas y qué compilación usas?

Vegas 15.361

Have you considered using the Magic YUV RGB flavor of the codec? What you see on the screen is what you'll get in your intermediate render.

I use the free version of Magic YUV, so I dont have that option :(

I do too, and the options are there.

Rule of thumb: If you render YUV mode you should need no correction. If RGB mode you are expected to add the Computer RGB filter.

I found how to render and preserve the original colors. I do not know how it works, but if I change the value of "Mode (conversion):" from "compress as-is (without conversion)" to "4: 4: 4", "4: 2: 2" or "4: 2: 0 ", it is rendered with the correct colors. Only "compress ass-is (without conversion)" gives me wrong colors.

In the section "Acceptable color space", I can only use "All media" or "RGB", any other option shows me the following message:

I dont know how to translate it perfectly, but it says something like "error when creating the media file. No compatible video codec was found".

I do too, and the options are there.

I dont have the option, I dont know why :( And I dont understand the rule, could you explan it to me?

P.D.

Maybe the whole problem was fault of my ignorance, and even though I already "solved" it, there is still something I do not understand and I could use a hand.

I recall the RGB setting is in the Magic YUV 'Configure' > 'Accepted color space' pull down menu... though I am not a video codec expert by any stretch.
