I'll attempt to interpret in a voice of moderation.

The Moral Imperative

Large companies have leaders who have been to the mountain top and have seen the promised land. They feel it is their moral responsibility to share the newly acquired wisdom with the rest of us.

The Market Conundrum

For a long time, markets have been inefficient because consumers lacked perfect information to make purchase decisions. As the technology has improved, companies are able to inform all potential consumers every time a developer farts in a cubicle on any continent on the planet Earth.

"moral responsibility" != "moral nihilism"

Magix is seriously out of touch. The popup (bright red ) had no option to reject the intrusion of an unwanted installation!! Damnable.

Just shit, Magix.

@Musicvid

How did the "MUSIC MAKER" get installed? Vegas update?

Musicvid wrote on 7/21/2018, 4:10 PM

No, goddamn red pop-up that took up 25% of my Windows home screen.

NO EXIT OR CLOSE POSSIBLE.

You Hijacked my PC Magix!

I FEEL VIOLATED

The kicker is I have NO MAGIX SOFTWARE INSTALLED ON THIS PC!

MSP PLATINUM 13, VEGAS PRO 8, VEGAS PRO 14, SOUND FORGE 7, SOUND FORGE STUDIO 6, DVDA 5.2, DVDA Studio.

Seems this shit trojan installer is being pushed without my consent through Sony Net Notify, a legacy portal that was never intendedto to be used in this manner.

Mediocrity just rules, eh guys?

Did you buy the Humble Bundle version of Vegas Pro 14?  If so, Magix Music Maker was part of that bundle.  Any chance you might have installed it (separate download) just to check it out?

This part is particularly concerning.   It sounds a lot like a fraudulent attack - is it possible Magix themselves have been infected?    Give them the benefit of the doubt and notify them - it's the weekend right now; but I would think we will see an official response to this by Monday/Tuesday.

That nailed it.

1. Yes

2. No, it seemed to be a Trojan install.

Well it is called Humble Bundle 😄

Tim L wrote on 7/22/2018, 11:33 PM

I bought the Humble Bundle, and I installed Music Maker, but it definitely was a separate download/installer link (I just checked my redemption info). In fact the bundle redemption screen had nine separate download links for the various products included in the bundle -- many of which I never downloaded.

"The kicker is I have NO MAGIX SOFTWARE INSTALLED ON THIS PC!"

Wrong! You have Vegas Pro 14, which is Magix software.

Your first post shows the automatic update request popping up in Music Maker, which you obviously installed and opened. You now indicate that you received it with a Humble Bundle. I probably have the same one, and I had to actually click on the link like all of the other software, get the download file, and do the installation; it didn't happen by itself.

I've been using Magix software for many years, and I have many Magix programs. Never, has Magix come and installed any program just out of the blue. Never did Magix hijack my computer and I doubt that it hijacked yours. I have always been able to stop installation of Magix software; the first thing that it asks is for permission to install.

Almost any software that one purchases from Magix now comes with Music Maker (the engine is free) and it shows up on the download screen along with whatever else one is purchasing. If you don't want it, uncheck the box. If you don't even look at the download screen, and this applies to all software, then you may get stuff that you didn't want or didn't need. So, always look at download screens before accepting an installation.

Now that you know how you probably got Music Maker, and that you actually installed it yourself, is your rant over? I think that you owe Magix an apology.

Can someone confirm that "Sony Net Notify" could have installed Music Maker on your computer? Since it's Sony, I'm wondering how or why Sony would install Music Maker on your computer. Has this happened to anyone else?

Are you keeping Music Maker? Do you know what it does? With all of your other DAWs (Music Maker is not really a DAW), and you have investigated what it is and how to use it, and if you have no use for it, then simply uninstall it. If you want to use it, look at the tutorials and post any questions that you have on the Magix.info forum.

I have Magix Samplitude Pro X3 Suite, but when I want to create some music quickly for a video using Soundpool loops, of which I have thousands, I use Music Maker because of its simpler interface. Like other miscellaneous software, it has its place.

In case you're interested, Here is a link to a tutorial that I did a couple of years ago on using Music Maker with Magix Movie Edit Pro.

I haven't tried this with Vegas (I have Vegas Pro 14) as I use Video Pro X.

I too bought VP14 Edit as a Humble Bundle. All the additional Magix software had to be installed separately. Nothing was installed without me installing it. Now... there is a Humble Bundle for VP15 Edit is anyone is interested in getting it cheap. Under $60 USD.

BTW... the Music Maker had to be uninstalled. It caused problems with Sonicfire Pro 6 and I had a constant pop up at the lower right on the taskbar about "Magix low latency" all the time.
