MOV File created in Titler Pro is unsupported in Vegas 19

Petr-Podlesak wrote on 12/17/2021, 12:11 PM

Hi, I upgraded to Vegas Pro 19 and cannot import MOV file created in Titler Pro 7 which I bought in a bundle with Vegas. First thing I did was I enabled Quick Time plugin in Depreciated features, installed Quick time player. I did not help. Still says "the file is unsupported format". But in Vegas Pro 17 MOV files work smoothly. Some other MOV files work. Only those created in Titler Pro don´t. Video conversion is useless as I need alpha channel.

Can you help? Here is a media info of the MOV file. Thanks a lot.

Here is one of the Mov file created in Titler Pro which does not work. I tested MOV file made in Iphone and those can be imported well.

I made a test and created MOV file in Titler Pro 5 and 7 and none of them can be imported to Vegas 19. Vegas 17 can import all MOV videos perfectly Ok.

The files output by Titler Pro are standard PNG sequence QuickTime files. Vegas can definitely read those files with QuickTime installed and it turned back on in the Deprecated Features tab. Interestingly, Apple has removed PNG Sequence reading the current QuickTime versions on the Mac. But the PC version was discontinued before that happened. I do wish VEGAS would read the PNG Sequence files natively, though.

Quick Time plugin in Deprecated features was the first thing I did after installation Vegas 19. In Vegas 17 MOV files works. Only Vegas 19 has problems with MOV file.

It may also make a difference what version of QuickTime is installed. But it should work fine.

@Petr-Podlesak Hi, don't know what to say, is this how it's supposed to look?

try going to C:\Users\'your name'\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\19.0, delete all those, Vegas will take a bit of time to load next time but it will rebuild all those files, I do this sometimes if a plugin doesn't show, hopefully it will reload whatever is stopping you importing this file,

I´ve got the latest version of QT 7.7.9.

@Petr-Podlesak That looks exactly the same as my Quicktime.

@Petr-Podlesak Good, i take it that it works now?

Musicvid wrote on 12/19/2021, 3:00 PM

Your file opens with alpha in VP19.

  1. Activate QT in Deprecated Features
  2. Restart Vegas.
  3. In Media Properties, select Straight or Premultiplied Alpha layer.

@Musicvid This has already been resolved in the comments above & in my video, i guess you didn't read it or watch my vid,

Not solved for me. I created a lower 3rd with TP5 and it's saved as a MOV. I have deprecated QT check marked, installed QT and still get the error window saying to transcode the file into a more suitable format such as MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4.

That would be nice if the file could be imported into VP19 Build 458, but it can't be imported. Other MOV files can be dragged and dropped, but not Titler Pro 5. I'm wondering if I would have better success with TP7 which I have not installed....

ADDED: I did delete the files in the appdata folder and let everything rebuild. Still not success.

@set thanks for the idea, but sadly, it didn't work. It's only with my saved TP5 mov files. All the other MOV files I have can be used.

It's a minor annoyance to have to redo TP5's I have saved, but not the end of the world. I do have TP7 on my computer, but haven't installed it yet....

As I am sure that you are aware, TP7 will completely override TP5 - different versions of TP don't co-exist on the same computer as has always been the case with TP (other than with the original TP1). If you do install TP7, I'd be interested to hear of your impressions about TP7 particularly in relation to its interaction with Vegas Pro as well as possible sluggishness on making adjustments in TP7 when displaying in Vegas Pro's preview window.

@Dexcon the reason I haven't installed TP7 yet is because I know it will overwrite TP5. I've read the comments on about the performance and previewing the video, etc. about it by others that would rather use TP5 or 6 over 7. Then there are some who are quick happy with TP7.

It's one of those things I will probably do this week, now that I am off.

@Reyfox, will QuickTime properly open the files?

The reason that format was chosen was because it has a relatively small size and supports alpha channels. MP4 doesn't support alpha so please don't convert them to MP4. And it really does work with QuickTime installed and turned back on in VEGAS. Not sure why your specific case is not working. I also know NewBlue is looking into exporting to other formats but that has not yet happened.

Reyfox wrote on 12/20/2021, 9:21 AM

@jetdv thanks for replying. I was able to play back the TP5 mov files with Quicktime 7.7.9.

I deleted the VP19 appdata folder and let Vegas rebuild.

A head scratcher for me.

Also after everything is set to work I get:

Alert: Media Warning
The file you are loading does not support efficient editing. Please transcode the file into a more suitable editing format such as MAFIX AVC/AAC MP4.

It gives me a check box to not tell me again. When I check the box and press OK, the next time I drag a MOV over it does the same thing. Why is this failing too!

That is a separate, unrelated question. A "message" is not a "file not opening." Please start your own thread (don't be shy) and include the required file information for peer support. Thanks!

My main point is I can't get Vegas Pro 19 to import mov files from Titler Pro. The "message" seemed related to the handling of MOV files, and appears stuck in a loop preventing the acceptance of the MOV file.

@nut4squirrel
That's already clear, but it has nothing to do with the original question.
We try to keep the threads clean here, otherwise a future user who has the same problem as you will never find the solution if it's hidden somewhere in the 17th reply to a completely different thread.

So start your own thread, and describe your specific problem there as accurately as possible, and provide the information @Musicvid asked you for.

Given my own successful test and response 9 up, it would behoove you to start your own inquiry, even provide your own sample for testing. It is kind of a "thing" here. Welcome to the forum.
