Movie Studio Platinum 16 Audio Problems

Henk-Buining wrote on 2/28/2019, 10:55 AM

Hi,
I just upgraded from Movie Studio Platinum 14 to 16 in the hopes of getting some better performance and bug fixes.
I use ShadowPlay to record some of my games and I split the audio tracks from my mic and ingame audio.
These neatly show up as two seperate tracks above eachother in the editor. In MSP 14 I had the problem that the program would freeze while importing clips with multiple audio tracks. So to fix it I had to toggle some settings at the cost of performance.
Now with MSP 16 these audio tracks, although seperated on the timeline, will become mostly silent mixed with intervals of audio stutters, small audio segments from other parts of the clip and sounds from my mic. As if both audio tracks are combined into one again and MSP 16 struggles to choose which one to play. Trying to lower the volumes of the tracks also has no effect on the outcome. It seems random what sounds it chooses to play, even changing what gets played after repeating certain segments.

Please help, thanks!

Shadowplay files don't work in Vegas because they are variable frame rate.

Here are the tested settings in Vegas for OBS.

@Henk-Buining
Sadly the posted quote how to use OBS with quality settings are outdated, because OBS has been evolved a lot the last period and well equiped to make very good and high performanced screegrabvideo's upto the latest Windows and Grafic Cards updates with the minimum of hardware use.
For more info contact me at the Dutch Vegas forum listed in my signature.

Thanks for the update!

@NickHope

I'm sure Nick and all of us will benefit when you post your new screenshot and settings on the forum FAQ post linked two above.

Thx for the answers!
I've tried OBS before but it didnt have a capture mode like Shadowplay where it captures the last x minutes of my gameplay. I've known about the variable framerate problem for a long time as well, I used to handbrake my clips before editing them just to get the framerate at a steady 60 fps. But I've been using MSP14 for a year now without any problems. No handbrake, no audio glitches, just raw variable framerate shadowplay footage. Also, I have hours upon hours of footage I'd like to edit. Just throwing it all away and starting from scratch using OBS isn't really an option for me.

@Henk-Buining are you saying that in the past you had problems with MSP14, but for the last year you have had no problems with Shadowplay source media directly into MSP14. Now in MVP16 you have problems. If that is correct, you can still use these clips that cause a problem in MSP16 in MSP14 without problems, is that correct?

Can you upload a short ample of Shadowplay source media for others to try?

Well, to be honest MSP14 has been quite the b*tch with alot of problems, like last week it decided that all my GoPro clips were suddenly unrecognizable ruining about 100+ hours of editing and two unfinished projects. Hence my current urge to upgrade. But overall no major problems keeping me from editing.
I've had MSP15 as well with these exact same audio problems, only tried it once before going back to MSP14.
I dont have any problems with my ShadowPlay clips in MSP14. I could try to upload some of the footage, Although I dont know how? Maybe I could also try to record the problem so you can see for yourself.

If you look at the video properties (right click the videofile only) VMS 16 is using and might it be the so4 compoundplug your are able to switch it off in the Internal Preferences by pushing Options/Preferences with hold shift-button like Nick has stated in his Faq.

Disabling the so4 compoundplug makes MSP unresponsive when I drag a clip onto the timeline. Happens while 'building peaks 1/2'.

Musicvid wrote on 2/28/2019, 7:04 PM

To upload original samples, use a mainstream fileshare --Drive, Dropbox, etc. (not YouTube), and post your link here.

You can easily convert your VFR files in Handbrake, ffmpeg, and I think Happy Otter Scripts.

I understand OBS has some back-capture functionality, is that correct?

Henk-Buining wrote on 3/1/2019, 7:38 AM

Handbrake doesn't seem to help. Just handbraked some clips to get them at a constant 60 fps, still the exact same issue. These clips do work in MSP14 however, handbraked or not.

Musicvid wrote on 3/1/2019, 9:00 AM

Then upload an original clip that shows the problem.

Henk-Buining wrote on 3/4/2019, 8:56 AM

Hi, again I'd like to thank you all for your help. I'm trying to be as precise as possible, but I'm not really familiar with the technical side of these things.
I've made a dropbox account and uploaded a clip that has the audio problems. I hope it works.

@Henk-Buining
I downloaded your file and played it in VMS 16 Pl.
I've seen no problems as I will show you, but careful as I here must be what is shown 😉, I will aske you where I have to look to see your problem?
here my video from OBS in a very low bitrate with 35 sec of video with a filesize of 8MB

j-v wrote on 3/4/2019, 5:40 PM

j-v wrote on 3/5/2019, 10:24 AM

4. Ga weer naar VMS een sleep de video met ingedrukte rechtermuisknop naar de tijdlijn en plaats hem daar als Video only/Video Only Across Time.

Sorry for the others who can not read the Dutch language.😢
