Movie Studio Platinum 16 - render with source settings

Hi,

I want to achieve something very simple. I have two MP4 clips of about 11 MB each. All I want to do is join them (with a cross fade) and then render the result. I want this result to use identical settings as the source material. Taking the two source clips into account, I expect the outcome to be roughly 22 MB in size. When using the option to set the project settings to the source material, the resulting clip is 116 MB however.

Is there a setting that the result is rendered with identical settings as the source, producing a result with similar quality and size?

I am using Movie Studio Platinum 16 on W10 64 bit

Vegas is an encoder, not a muxer (spelling is correct).

Long-GOP source is a bear to mux properly, not concatenate.

I use VideoRedo TV Suite, a paid solution with a free trial. Another user recently mentioned a freeware product that may or may not work for you. It is called mp4joiner. Unfortunately, I know nothing about it.

And how exactly did you select "the option to set the project settings to the source material"?

@Musicvid I encountered this issue when joining, but it could have been after editing just as well. The rendered video is much larger than the source material would suggest or justify.

I'll post the details of the source file below. As far as 'project settings based on the source material' is concerned: I remember vividly seeing a checkbox for this, but I can't retrace my steps. Basically that is the essence of my question: what is the easiest way to render with identical settings/properties as the source, preferably without manually setting all kinds of parameters

@Dienst-ICT Your source has a very low bitrate of 1,488 Kbps. Also there's something strange about the framerate. Media Info says 25.000fps yet MS General tab says 23.976 fps! Anyway you will need to customise an mp4 template to get a render with a similar low bitrate.

When you don't edit something with those files, it has no sense to use Vegas like @Musicvid also did tell you.
I always use for those tasks to cut, split or join only the mp4 this free app. mp4 joiner.

@j-v Well, I did specify that I wanted to make a cross fade when joining the two clips, but it is good to know that there are simpler tools when no editing is necessary. Thanks

Matching the bitrate (file size) is not a goal because you are using different encoders. Even encoding with the same encoder would give you different bit rate and file size, because it will have been encoded twice! Encoding is a lossy process, meaning it degrades with each subsequent generation. No magic to be found there.

Using a muxer, such as VideoRedo or possibly freeware AVIDemux, will not recompress (encode) your files, but will join them, trim, cut, etc. as if to a carbon copy of the originals.

Vegas is an encoder, not a muxer. Crossfades and effects are not possible in a muxer, because those must be encoded. Getting it?

The kind of smart-rendering you are hoping for, where original source is left untouched, and only effected or generated material is encoded, is available in Vegas, but only with MPEG-2 and some AVI source. Unfortunately, AVC will not smart-render in Vegas owing to its complex GOP structure.:-)
