@hugo-d Hi, MP4 is just a container, there's other info 'contained' within that could affect why it won't load into Vegas,

There's a tool called MediaInfo, download it, it's free https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo
After downloading, right click on the media in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the View option, select all, copy & paste in a comment here,

@hugo-d Hi, try turning on Legacy HEVC in Preference - File I/O, which Vegas & Windows version do you have.

There's an additional Microsoft HEVC codec that can help sometimes, you have to buy it for W10 but it's cheap, https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/hevc-video-extensions/9NMZLZ57R3T7?WT.mc_id=-blog-shchowd

Also can you go to your icon at the top, click it - My Profile, & fill in your Signature with your Vegas version, Windows version & system specs, full name of CPU, GPU, & amount of RAM etc. this will then show at the bottom of the comments & will help people help you 👍 (see mine & other peoples at the bottom of comments) thanks.

One thing I can promise you is that it won't be supported in Vegas 17, which reached its EOL two years ago. You can download Vegas Pro 19 free trial if you want to test it.

Try this, download Shutter encoder https://www.shutterencoder.com/en/

Rewrap to MP4. the reason to do this is that the process removes the AVC proxy file. Your vegas should then be able to read the file fine... This assumes the extra video contained within the wrapper is the problem'

Incidentally this file plays amazingly well in Vegas for a 60fps 4K Hevc, and we can see why, Not a B frame to be seen, with a GOP of 30.

I have to wonder if these are the sorts of HEVC files Vegas was designed to edit, throw longer GOP's with lots of B frames, and it has a stroke

It works !!! I continued looking in what @Former user showed me "turning on Legacy HEVC in Preference" and changed "Hardware decoder to use" from Intel QSV to NVIDIA NVDEC and it works!
