Replace camera audio with sync ex audio

doobre wrote on 12/31/2020, 4:56 AM

Hi there

A few versions back [poss v15] I recall that it was possible for Vegas to replace the audio of a A/V file with the audio from an external recorder by syncing the audio waveform. Thus creating a new A/V file containing the original video and the ext. recorder's audio in sync.

How is your memory..?

cheers CD

That sounds a bit like ADR because of the syncing waveforms process. I can't recall that being in an earlier version of Vegas Pro (once introduced, features like that tend to continue on in later versions), but I do recall that HitFilm Pro a few versions ago included a feature that was similar to what you describe. Maybe it wasn't all that successful because it is no longer a part of HitFilm Pro.

Are you thinking of the Pluraleyes plugin? It's gotten quite expensive.

@doobre @Musicvid  ... I've just added ADR as a feature request on the VP19 Feature Requests post on Offtopic.

@doobre Multiple audio sources can be combined into a single video clip using ffmpeg also, but for syncing I'd say you would want to first trim the start of the external audio, to match the video clips audio. Assuming that the external audio starts earlier. VP has built in syncing, then there’s Pluraleyes.

Thanks for the interest BUT...

it was in an older version (If memory serves me correctly 15) which was on someone else's PC which I borrowed.. and it wasn't an add-on extra.. It was there in the menu.. One video track was sync'd to a corresponding ext. audio track and the result was a new A/V track with the video 's original audio track replaced by the ext. recorder's audio.

Or am I going mad..!??$%*@#*

btw v18 which I own, built-in sync is not good at all and doesn't do the job properly.. see https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-17-audio-syncronization-not-working--116529/?page=2#ca786077

Hence my memory blast..

Final Cut X kind of works like that. Maybe you are thinking of multitrack mode?

Vegas has a very limited built in sync but it hasn't changed as far as I know. I use PluralEyes.

You may have seen a new a new "Take" ... that will not sync automatically though and has been an option in VP as far back as I can recall

.. I've just added ADR as a feature request on the VP19

'ADR' is a labor intensive process for the talent and techs. despite the name., it is far from automatic or automated. Voc-align was popular to tweak ADR and wild lnes.

The "feature" in your older version was either multicam slaved SMPTE / Genlock timecode, or it was Pluraleyes, which does show up in the menu dropdown. I've been syncing 32-mic, six-sub, three-recorder live performances in Vegas since 2002 (VV2), and I am aware of no other non-manual possibilities for what you describe.
