Sony Vegas Pro 13 - Rendering Stops midway through

John-Bogansky wrote on 7/23/2020, 4:13 PM

Hello. I have been using Sony Vegas 13 for a years now and it's been working perfectly until a few days ago when I tried to render something and it decides to stop halfway through the render at around 23%, but the timer keeps going until it hits 00:00 time remaining. The elapsed time keeps going though. This is such a weird error and I was wondering if anyone could help me fix this. Thanks! I am using an HP Envy laptop from 2018, specs are i7-8550U, 16gb RAM,

Does the render stop halfway through the render or at around 23% which is closer to one fourth of the way through?

It matters. The event or effect at the exact place the render stops could be the source of the problem.

It varies. Today it was 23% but last night it was 51% - @john_dennis

Is this variation with the same project? As John Dennis suggests my first place to start investigating would be what's on the timeline at the point of failure.

@John-Bogansky

Nick Hope compiled this troubleshooting guide to help with these types of issues:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-stop-vegas-pro-hanging-or-crashing-during-rendering--104786/

If the timeline events haven't changed from what has worked for many years, I would look at:

  • Recent Windows updates
  • Intermittent hardware issues
  • Check Windows Event Log
  • Clean out the dust bunnies
  • Run machine diagnostics for system and memory.
  • Check Power Plan to insure that the machine does not try to sleep, hibernate or allow the hard drives to spin down during a render.

From a Command Prompt issue the following command:

powercfg /h off

exit

  • Follow @Musicvid's advice to let us know what type of media you have on your timeline.

How do I run a system and memory diagnostic?

See HP for system diagnostics. It's a manufactured system from a vendor.

Okay here's a few updates to the original post. I will preface this by saying I've been using Vegas for about 12 years. Started with version 7 and now I'm on 13. I've been having problems with crashing since I've had this new computer but I've always been able to get a project done so I've ignored it. Recently now, this problem arises.

1. Here's a photo of what the issue looks like. This is for another project. It stopped at 54%. I'm rendering out a portion of a larger project because it features multiple short films.

2. Here is the stats (using Mediainfo) of the raw video. I'm trying to render this out in 1920x1080 at 59.940 FPS, same FPS as the video.

No actually, the frame rate of the RAW video is 29.970

john_dennis wrote on 7/27/2020, 7:11 PM

Do you really need two .mp4.mp4 extensions?

There's no point to rendering your 640x480 source to 1920x1080.

That's extension thing is a glitch. And I'm rendering out a 480 source to 1080 because it's a music video. I want the video to look vintage while still having clear audio. Could this be a problem?

Any other ideas as to what this could be?

1) Did you go through the steps that John linked to?

2) Among those, you don't list if you have a GPU. Do you? If so, have you tried turning off gpu support as a test?

System 1:

Windows 10
i9-10850K 10 Core
128.0G RAM
Nvidia RTX 3060 Studio driver [most likely latest]
Resolution        3840 x 2160 x 60 hertz
Video Memory 12G GDDR5

System 2:

Lenovo Yoga 720
Core i7-7700 2.8Ghz quad core, 8 logical
16G ram
Intel HD 630 gpu 1G vram
Nvidia GTX 1050 gpu 2G vram

I tried extending the time that the hard drive stays on. Still stops at 51%. I have an Intel UHD graphics 620 but I also have an NVIDIA GeForce MX150 in my machine as well.

I'm still not really understanding what to do here.

Basically run through the list John gave you. *I* would start by disabling gpu rendering.

  • In a new project, try to render the individual file MVI_3794.MOV to the same template as your main project.
  • Share the file MVI_3794.MOV on google drive, OneDrive or dropbox.com, etc. and provide the link here. Someone will download the file and check it.
  • Divide your project into 3 to 5 segments and render each segment to an uncompressed AVI. Combine the segments in a new project and attempt to render to the render template you're using for your main project. Hint: Overlap the segments and include markers in each render to aid in alignment.

Here's the link: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Amb2ne47oQtXgWTiRlbMzFbiHcWj?e=m4Drcf - The MOV is the raw file and the Untitled is the rendered file. Notice the black blips every now and then. This is another problem.

Is there a phone number one of you guys could give me and walk me through this? I have several projects that have a deadline. I really can't figure this out.

I noticed you're in 32 bit float mode, why is that?

I'm not too sure, haha. Should I change it?
