And the elapsed time just goes on forever but it never "finishes". So I'm stuck not being able to render.
If it always hangs at the same point, find out what on the timeline is causing it, and eliminate it from your project.

I've tried rendering a couple of different videos, even tried batch rendering, same thing happens.
