Vegas Pro 17 Crashing when trying to Render. [Urgent support needed]

ROCKY007 wrote on 8/9/2020, 10:52 PM

Hi All,

Created a Choir Project and now I am trying to render and it crashes in 2 or 3% itself. I know 8GB might not be enough but I am rendering it as a MAGIX AAC/HEVC mp4 720p, and it still crashes. Please help, I need to create this video by 08/14.

I am using Vegas Pro 17 Build 452. System config below:

Operating System
  Platform: Windows 10.0 (64-bit)
  Version: 10.00.18363

Processor
  Class: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8250U CPU @ 1.60GHz
  Identifier: GenuineIntel
  Number of processors: 8

Memory
  Physical memory: 8,113.3 MB
  Paging memory available: 19,618.4 MB

The Intel GPU was the culprit in my case. I have the same chip in my AIO.

  • Update the grahics drivers to the latest.
  • Turn off GPU Acceleration of Video Processing in Preferences as a test.

@Musicvid

I did both the bullet points.

It is still the same.

Try rendering as Magic AVC instead of HEVC, which requires a lot more power to create.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

ROCKY007 wrote on 8/10/2020, 2:04 AM

@fr0sty I tried it. This time it rendered until 3%. :(

Find out what video or audio event might be at that time in the timeline. Then check what processes it needs - like what FX you applied, etc.

I found out that Vegas Stabilization plug-in crashed one of my projects so bad that I had to remove it manually in order to un-freeze it.

@Musicvid

I did both the bullet points.

It is still the same.

To be sure, is this the setting you tried? I was almost certain this would help.

ROCKY007 wrote on 8/10/2020, 12:59 PM

Yes @Musicvid That is what I turned off.

@adimatis It was just a simple Titles and Text FX.

adimatis wrote on 8/10/2020, 3:03 PM

Well, the idea would be to identify if there is something in the timeline at that particular point that might be the problem.

And to follow what @fr0sty advice, try other formats too. If all you try only takes you that far, see if re-doing the project into a new one, with the same events would produce the same crash/freeze, as I would say most definitely something in the timeline give Vegas headaches.

And BTW, check the disk available storage. It might be a full-disk error.

Are you monitoring memory use while you're rendering? If not, you should be. 8G is borderline useful.

System 1:

Windows 10
i9-10850K 10 Core
128.0G RAM
Nvidia RTX 3060 Studio driver [most likely latest]
Resolution        3840 x 2160 x 60 hertz
Video Memory 12G GDDR5

System 2:

Lenovo Yoga 720
Core i7-7700 2.8Ghz quad core, 8 logical
16G ram
Intel HD 630 gpu 1G vram
Nvidia GTX 1050 gpu 2G vram

@adimatis I have tried several formats. Same issue.

Redoing the Project will take me 2 days to complete lol

I have over 50GB available.

@michael-harrison I increased the Affinity to Above normal too. Didnt work.

CPU usage: 1.4 GB while rendering and 550MB when Project in use.

I was able to find the error report on our system. According to the logs, the settings were,

<Windows Media Video V11> resolution:1280 x 720, PAR:1.000000, bit depth:24, FPS:25.000000, length:2002000000, interlace:0

It is quite surprising that this would cause a problem. Your drivers are all up to date, but the gpu and cpu are rather low powered. I am currently debugging the dump file, but that will take a bit of time.

@ROCKY007

I think you have your terms mixed up.

Memory = RAM = 8G on your system. You might have 50G of disk space available but not memory.

CPU usage: what you show is memory use.

You should also look at the Performance tab and highlight overall memory use to make sure you aren't getting close to max

I don't see anywhere that you say what gpu you're using, or do you not have one at all?

It's a bit of a hail mary but have you disabled so4compoundplug?

@ROCKY007: It looks like the crash is happening when generating the frame from the source media. We probably need to get some media-info information from your source or have you share the source media with us.

fr0sty wrote on 8/10/2020, 5:27 PM

Rocky, if you cannot upload a sample of your media to dropbox/google drive or something like that, give us a mediainfo report on it. That will help isolate your issue.

Et All,

I found a work around to this, I opened a NEW Project and imported the Problematic Veg file into it. (So now in this new Project I do not see my Source media at all, ONLY this Veg file). I rendered it from here and it worked fine.

Please keep this post open for the next 3 days since I will be Working on them until then.

To Answer Michael:

Details of my GPU?

so4compoundplug is Disabled.
