Vegas Pro19 preview stutters on simple transition (Dx) - No effects!

bruce-q wrote on 11/30/2022, 10:34 AM

Good day folks,

Since upgrading to Vegas Pro19, I am having preview issues with the simplest of effects - a disolve from one event to another.

My computer specs are listed in my signature.

I'm using AVC FHD (1910x1080) video at 59.940fps. My preview playbeck is set at "Preview - Auto".

I find I need to play the 1 second disolve back at least 5 times before it plays smoothly.

I have tried EVERYTHING! (I think...):

  • Setting the frame rate in properties to 29.97
  • Checked that Resample is disabled.
  • Tried matching the preview window to my video size (1910x1080).
  • Disabled Advanced Backup.
  • Rebooted computer/restarted Vegas.
  • Made sure I have the latest updates for both Vegas and Windows 11.

One thing I have noticed that appears strange: When I open Help>Computer in Vegas, it seems that Vegas is not recognizing Windows 11. This is what I get:

  • Operating System
  •   Platform: Windows 10.0 (64-bit)
  •   Version: 10.00.22621

What I actually have is Windows 11, v 22H2

Don't know if this is relevant.

Any pointers or advice would be very much appreciated.

  1. Select the transition .
  2. Tools->Selectively Prerender Video.

In V18 it was fine? Or which version worked perfectly with no stutter?

#1 Ryzen 5-1600, 16GB DDR4, Nvidia 1660 Super, M2-SSD, Acer freesync monitor

#2 i7-2600, 32GB, Nvidia 1660Ti, SSD for system, M2-SSD for work, 2x4TB hdd, LG 3D monitor +3DTV +3D projectors

Win10 x64, Vegas22 latest

The last version of Vegas I was using was v16.

I really can't understand what I have done wrong. I will try the pre-render, but surely this should not be necessary with the processor and gfx card I have. I certainly didn't have to prerender with Vegas P16.

I have also searched the forum as well as checked trouble shooting and FAQs, all to no avail.

Any other ideas?

Many thanks in advance.

If this type of media works better with the old decoder you can select "enable legacy AVC" in preferences/ file io.

For transitions I often highlight and do a ram preview (shift b).

@bruce-q

The vintage of your hardware is similar to mine or a shade newer. You should be doing better.

Perhaps you should expose us to the media that you're editing? Is it really 1910x1080?

Post Mediainfo Report or place a sample of the media on a cloud share and post the link here .

John: seems like your RX480 does a much better job than a 10 series nvidia card.
Is it right? My daughter has a 1050ti, but we think about upgrade to RX480 especially
when Vegas works so much better with it. (in games it's 1.5x faster for sure)

@relaxvideo

For the $250 I spent on the RX480 I've been happy with it. It works well with the XAVC media from my camera. I'm not excited about a replacement for it. I'm curious about using the Intel on-die iGPU in the Intel 13th generation processors for decoding in the near future. I don't play games, but I do use Lightroom and Photoshop. The last Nvidia card I owned was(is) a GTS450 which never did anything for me.

You might take a look at the Vegas benchmark results for both playback fps (timeline) and render times. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1b3ggVifKsuT-cp2kQHjum_KnQ4-2jBmUIvzmu7BQZ34/

You can see similar CPUs with different GPUs and how they compare in Vegas. The Intel decoders are great in Vegas if you have a CPU that supports one.

Personally I looked around at the GPU options and costs and picked up a RTX 2080 Super recently for about $300 USD used. You can see my results in the benchmark.
