Vegas Text tool needs a REVAMP!

Cobra wrote on 5/7/2021, 8:57 AM

Okay the Media Generator tool is being static for the past decade with Vegas. Not only that but they removed the awesome Legacy Text tool from previous versions.
I have Vegas 18 and I really feel the text tool is old and needs improvement.

Here are some things that I have noticed, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong or what tools would u like to add.

  • Text Color: You cannot change the color of the text on different letters or syllables
  • There is no subtitle mode
  • The location tool is weak
  • Sometimes for no reason the font resets to Verdana and you have to make the selection again
  • There is no center to screen (horizontally/vertically) or premade locations
  • Animations are old and outdated (reminds me of the 90s)
  • Some fonts even though installed in Windows are not loading
  • Extra lower third tools

The Legacy Text tool is not removed.... it can be re-activated from within the Deprecated Features tab in Preferences.

"Not only that but they removed the awesome Legacy Text tool from previous versions."

It wasn't removed, just hidden and ready to be used when selected from the deprecated feature option.

"Text Color: You cannot change the color of the text on different letters or syllables"

You can change text color of different letters with the ProType Titler which is still there (same as for legacy text).

"There is no subtitle mode"

Dependend on what you mean (closed captions) there is a separate tool for this availabe.

"Some fonts even though installed in Windows are not loading."

This is only true for Titles&Text while all Windows fonts work fine with the other three Vegas Pro titlers.

If you don't want your suggestions to be overlooked by the developers, it would be more purposeful to post them in this particular thread.

Guys, Magix is "hiding" these features because apparently they will remove them eventually. Why they put them in "deprecated" named menu. Instead of adding features they are removing. And I am referring to the Titles & Text which is the MAIN tool for titles.

Pridak wrote on 5/7/2021, 2:19 PM

This is right. Text tool needs improvements mentioned by you @Cobra. Creating lower thirds will be satisfying. Lots of fonts featured in Windows or installed by user can't be seen by VEGAS Pro.

Marco. wrote on 5/7/2021, 3:06 PM

Zero reason to complain about things easily avalable.

The best titler in Vegas has always been Photoshop.

Reasons: Layers, Adobe fonts, crystal clear renditions.

Cobra lol, we know that!.... None of us whom you are addressing here are newbies. As for me (along with many other professionals) i handle all my titling needs in After Effects. An NLE can't do everything...... Still however it would indeed be good for Vegas to implement a single creative and more powerful fully featured titling tool.

'There is no center to screen (horizontally/vertically)'

There is. Just type 0.5,0.5 in the location parameter box. I agree with most of your other points though.

Sure, deprecated means on the way out but there's no way Magix is going to remove titlers without improving the one that remains. I agree Vegas needs a better titling solution and hope they allocate the needed development resources to get rid of all these legacy options and give us one fully featured titler.

It would help enormously outlining a textbox, when the textbox would snap to the grid of the preview, when activated. Also the possibility to zoom in/out on the preview screen would help to place a textbox accurate or beyond the screen for fly in/out animations.

Jack S wrote on 5/8/2021, 9:22 AM

@3POINT '...or beyond the screen'.

I know it's not ideal, but you can do this now. If you press and hold Shift while dragging the location cursor, you can drag it off screen. I totally agree with you about the ability to zoom in/out of the preview screen. That would make it much easier to place the cursor off screen.

I've never seen any NLE that have auto align/snapping when users try to placed a text or any type of media properly in the preview, This features can be seen on Adobe Photoshop, VEGAS Images/Imerge, Affinity Designer etc.

If VEGAS Pro have this, would be so much easier & faster.

I know this feature (aligning/snapping) from Powerdirector. Also the zooming in/out of the preview. Simple but very effective.
