I just see transcoding to MP4 AVC using FFmpeg also works fine.

Sorry, in laymans terms, do I need to use a different transcoder to SVP? Are they free to use?

Marco. wrote on 4/22/2021, 4:04 PM

FFmpeg is free to use, but script based. HandBrake is free, too.

Ah I don't think I can do script stuff. Do you recommend handbrake then- and that will be able to convert it to MP4 AVC ? thanks

Marco. wrote on 4/22/2021, 4:09 PM

HandBrake is an FFmpeg based frontend (actually SVP is, too) which is used by many video editors, though I meanwhile prefer the FFmpeg script versions (if needed). HandBrake encoded MP4 AVC tend to work fine in Vegas Pro.

Of course you could also try to set-up SVP in a way it outputs working files but I never used SVP so I could not help. Maybe use QuickSync in SVP as encoder.

Ok will try that and ask SVP forum how to do that. Thanks very much for all your help.

Also, it won't let me drag any of the non black and white videos into Vegas 18 either or import them...

Do you have the Microsoft KB5001330 update on your system? Try uninstalling it.

Ah yes I do have that update, I am uninstalling it now...thanks

Sadly no change. But thanks for the info - always worth a try.

This happens when I'm using "Lossless" quality footage...
So lame.
Vegas has far too many bugs!

@Nathanial-Anderson It may not be a VEGAS bug. Please start your own thread and include MediaInfo for your specific footage. Would be great to have a short sample of this "lossless" quality footage as well to see if it can be replicated on other systems.

Is this normal- it claims to use a 4:4:4 High profile but MediaInfo reports chroma subsampling is actually just 4:2:0?

Is there any point to 8-bit 4:4:4 anyway?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Video_Coding

High 4:4:4 Predictive Profile (Hi444PP, 244)

This profile builds on top of the High 4:2:2 Profile, supporting up to 4:4:4 chroma sampling, up to 14 bits per sample, and additionally supporting efficient lossless region coding and the coding of each picture as three separate color planes.
