VP 20 Slideshow creator changes aspect ratio of images to the project

Wovian wrote on 3/6/2023, 1:11 PM

Evening All

Is there a way I can prevent the aspect ratio of the still images included in the slideshow defaulting to the aspect ratio of the project?

If I drag photos to the timeline individually the aspect ratio stays the same (I get black bars at either end of the photo but that's OK) but using the slideshow creator it uses the same aspect ratio of the project and my photos are cropped at the top and bottom and I have to go back and adjust them individually which takes forever.

Thanks

There is a native script that aligns all the media you select on the timeline to the project's aspect ratio. did you test it?

The problem I have is that the slideshow creator makes the photos match the aspect ratio of the project instead of leaving the photos at 3:2. I don't want them to match the project's aspect ratio as that is what is causing the cropping. Sorry if I was unclear

Try resetting Vegas. It must be a setting somewhere; I am not seeing this nor am I able to duplicate your observation.

Musicvid if I drag the photo onto the timeline manually I do not get this issue its only when I use the slideshow creator.

@Wovian I believe that when it comes to transitions in Vegas, they work just like that, they are always based on the aspect ratio of the project.

You could use this filter to fill the background black.

@Wovian Can you send a screen recording so I can better understand your problem?

Yes, @Wovian you said that. That is exactly what I did. Insert->Slideshow

In the video event FX window there is no preset for the photos. If I change each one to the default preset, it uses the original aspect ratio which is what I am after.

Musicvid wrote on 3/6/2023, 2:54 PM

No problems here: Good Luck.

There is a way to leverage Edit -> "Selectively Paste Event Attributes" to apply the pan/crop setting you make on one event to obey "Match Source Aspect" (with subsequent rectangle adjustment) to all the rest of the events.

Wovian wrote on 3/7/2023, 11:44 AM

Thanks bvideo. That will save me a lot of time.

Its interesting that the event pan/crop preset in all of the slideshow images is empty. When I use "Default" from the drop down the original aspect ratio is applied. Maybe this is an oversight and could be requested to be dealt with in the next update?
