Workaround for ProRes RAW

alifftudm95 wrote on 12/7/2020, 1:50 AM

Received a editing job, 2 min short story ads for next year CNY.

The video format will be ProRes RAW, as they externally shoot with Atomos from A7III Camera.

Since VEGAS is forever waiting for apple approval, what is the best workaround for me to use this ProRes RAW in VEGAS Pro 18?

Vegas Pro has been approved for ProRes RAW

Wow that is great, but I don't think it will come next week. Cause the project is starting soon and need to be done by end of this month. Any workflow or workaround?

too bad I don't own any mac machines, any software support ProRes RAW for transcoding? I remembered Z-CAM camera have a dedicated software for you to convert the RAW into a baked codec like ProRes, DnxHD, H264 etc

any similar stuff for prores raw?

I'd start with what software works with this format that you have access to? Then figure out how to get proxies to edit with until you're ready to color correct it in the other software and then replace clips in Vegas (or you just white balance and export to do the rest of the editing and color correcting in Vegas). But I think you know that... Haven't seen a third-party plug-in or anything for ProRes raw in Vegas.

ProRes RAW is supported in Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere and Grass Valley Edius, along with a collection of other apps including ASSIMILATE SCRATCH, Colorfront and FilmLight Baselight.

I think I"ve seen you using Premiere Pro, so you have adobe. You can use the media encoder to transcode apple raw, but then it comes to what sort of quality you want. For easy playback there's XAVC 422, but if you want to preserve as much as possible, there's apple prores 4444XQ quicktime. Those are the formats that work, and my recollection is that the 2 that didn't was apple prores 4444XQ mxf and the beloved DNxHR444, I don't think any variant of those formats worked.

MagicYUV works in Premiere, so that might be an option for bringing files into Vegas with less ridiculous file sizes.

@alifftudm95 no need to subscribe just download the trial version of Media Encoder from here:

https://www.adobe.com/products/media-encoder.html

just make sure you instal the codec first from here:
