Separating audio and video tracks

I know this should be a very easy task. It's something that is done all the time. I should be able to look in help and figure it out. But I've just wasted two friggin hours trying to learn how to do what I want to do and still can't find it anywhere.

So you have one video; now I want to add the audio from another video as a voice over on the first video; then I want to transition to the video and audio of the second video. How hard can this be? I know I can mute one track. But that's not what I want to do. I want to add the video to the timeline but not the audio or vice versa.

Or once I have a video and audio track I should be able to remove one or the other.

envelopes and a fade should work.

Do you have "Ignore Event Grouping" selected?
Or need to separate video and audio track.
Or use the Trimmer. Right-click, "Select Video (or Audio) Only", select the portion you need, and drag the selection to the desired track.

I used the ungroup command to separate the two. This should be in the help sections with examples.

I'm sure it is. That's how i learned about it.

One of the things i do when learning new software is find the help page that describes all the keyboard shortcuts. So many things you need to know are right there on one page. Even things you've never imagined before might be explained enough there that you'll want to learn them and find out how they improve your workflow.

Another good exercise is to try right-mouse-button clicking on everything. You'll find amazing things pop up and offer you a huge number of options and tools.
