Using Search function in Help/Contents & Index crashes Movie Studio 14

Hi everyone
I discovered this annoying problem today and am wondering if anyone else is seeing the same behaviour ?
Using the Search (tab) or Index (tab) function in the Help / Contents & Index file, becomes non-responsive and then crashes Movie Studio 14 Platinum (#148) and also Movie Studio 13 Platinum (#955).

I would like to know what is causing this problem ?
I have never experienced this before today, but have noticed that other users have reported the same problem over the years with different versions of Vegas.

I am on Windows 10, version 1709, OS Build 16299.192

To replicate problem, first go to Help/Contents & Index
Then go to the Index tab
Randomly select any item from the list and press the Display button or double-click
Everything will seem OK
Now keep clicking different items from the list
When I get to my 5th selection, the program freezes and closes down.

Re-boot Vegas and this time use the Search tab
Searching an item immediately becomes non-responsive and ends with the program closing.

I then checked Vegas Pro 13, 14 and 15 and Movie Studio Platinum 12, 13 and 14.
No problem with Vegas Pro 13, 14 and 15
No problem with Movie Studio Platinum 12

Problem only affects Movie Studio Platinum 13 and 14

What component in Windows is responsible for the Help file search function ?
Why is 2 versions being affected, but the others are OK ?

Derek, I'm on the same version and build as you with Win10 Home and have no problem with MS14 Platinum. Running through your recipe gives no crashes or freezes. I haven't tried 13.

I used to have partly similar problems with MS12 on a 32 bit Vista machine and as a work around always opened the Help file from outside MS.

Derek, I tried 13 (SCS b 955) and did not get to repro. Win10Pro 1703 b. 15063.786 still though.

I've now also tried 13. Magix rebrand Build 987 64 bit and like vkmast had no problems.

I found the location of all the Help files for Magix and Sony programs here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins\Help Files\MovieStudio140.chm

Opening the Help file for version 13 and 14, works 100% OK without crashing outside of Vegas.
So I will use this method from now on.
I just wish I could find out what was causing this, because it is damn frustrating.

I think my problem has something to do with another related problem.
When I open the Help file within Vegas, it keeps opening on my 2nd monitor.
No amount of program resets or moving/resizing the window, keeps it on Monitor 1.
Something in Windows 10 has gone alien on me ๐Ÿ‘ฝ๐Ÿ‘ฝ๐Ÿ‘ฝ

Yes, the need for this .chm workaround has come up every now and then. Sometimes reported "solved like this", sometimes "mysteriously solved" by itself.
