Black pixelation after cutting/cropping video.

HappyFriar. I'm sorry, I don't feel comfortable handing over my files.

Place the clip on a new timeline, make the project properties match, do a cut & render out & see how that works. Might be a setting somewhere. Even rendering out to an image sequence/uncompressed AVI might expose a codec issue.

I did as you suggested HappyFriar, I didn't bother rendering it because the issue still appears in the preview window, a sign that the render won't go over very well in my experience with this issue. The dark gray solid layer doesn't seem to do any good. And it seems to be not all that common a problem. I'm thinking either A: My PC is unable to keep up with the demands of Sony Vegas, or B: My copy of Sony Vegas isn't worth the money and I may need to switch to another software. With that being said, in my opinion, I thought Sony Vegas was the best out there for YouTube video editing, any suggestions on what other program I should use?

It should be apparent by now that no one has seen or been able to reproduce your exact issue. And there is about a century of combined experience interested/working on it. That includes others who use your choice of capture software. So passing judgment on the software may be premature at this point, although you are absolutely encouraged by your peers to trial or purchase other software. Please do post back and share your outcome(s).

If you have not yet put in a support ticket with Magix, now would seem an opportune time. They have more ways to confirm or rule out a bug than your fellow users; however, they, like your handcuffed peers, won't be able to determine a thing without your original source...

A perfectly silly question here, Matt, have you installed any Codec "packs" on your rendering machine, like K-lite or ffdshow, or gaming packs?

Not silly in the least. I don't know what a codec pack is, I have just plain vanilla SV pro 14. My reason in originally posting the issue here was, is it an easy fix? Or is it going to take me months to get to the bottom of. I just recently downloaded windows movie maker to test out my footage, and in WMM when I make cuts it does the same thing, but turns green instead of black. So I'm looking into OBS known issues right now, and any possible settings I may of hurriedly overlooked. Thank you all for your help in this situation, I greatly appreciate it, and it has allowed me to become even more familiar with Sony Vegas and OBS in large part to you guys. I will update as soon as I figure out what kind of fixes were needed in OBS if any. I still suspect it's a PC thing and perhaps I need a more powerful PC, but time will tell.

Thank you all for your time.

In an earlier post Nick Hope suggested you change your recording settings in OBS. My personal perception is that a bit rate of 2500 might be a shade low for media with lots of action that will be edited and rendered.

TheHappyFriar wrote on 4/4/2017, 10:13 PM

To me everything is pointing to a codec or file capture issue.

John, when I record video direct from my PC I try to go for the least compression possible. So could very well be to low a bitrate.

Matt, is there a particular reason you're not using the OS or GPU drive's game recording software instead?

Matt1989 wrote on 4/4/2017, 11:30 PM

I don't have a gpu, just the Intel integrated graphics chip. I was using settings from a YouTube video that taught me how to use OBS. I'm really inexperienced with OBS and I'm still on that learning curve.

. I was using settings from a YouTube video

Are you telling us you have or have not tested Nick's OBS settings?

"Yes" or "No" will do nicely.
