yeah pretty much did all of that already. I was hoping to not have to split the file. it's ridiculous that a program that costs up to $700 has to have so many work arounds. I suppose vegas will never work properly will it... sigh...

I edit 2 and even 3 hour projects in vegas with as many as 5 cameras in 4k using mixed formats all the time without issue... Perhaps if you can post the media info for your files (download mediainfo to get it, it's free), it can help us isolate what the issue is coming from. Also, have you tried to disable timeline GPU acceleration? Not suggesting to go without it, but if it works, it points us towards a solution. Worst case, is there a way you can share the project and its media to an online storage site like dropbox or google drive? Replicating the issue is key to finding and fixing it... if you can't do that, use OBS studio to record a video of your desktop while you go through your project timeline (just scroll through it so I can see how the tracks are laid out, if anything is muted at the event level, composite levels, etc), and then record the bug happening as well... that might help us reproduce your issue and isolate what is causing it.

Is your file AVI? How large is it?

Did you try the recommended capture app and settings?

By "elements" I'm assuming you mean tracks. That doesn't sound right at all. I regularly render 2 hour streams with a 4K and 6K track, text and graphics overlays etc. with fx and crops without problems using either QVC or AMD GPU all the time. Also, in earlier versions of Vegas when it crashed, it was hung and dead. I've not had a hard crash with Vegas 16 so far. Missing tracks sounds a lot more like something in the project isn't set up correctly.

Do the tracks always drop out at the same point? Is there something different in the project or tracks at that point? Try just rendering a short section of the project that starts before the tracks drop out and extends past the drop out.

I wish I've had that experience, but I haven't. I've tried the same file both as an .MP4 and .MXF. I have multiple elements, but 5 tracks. A background, 2 overlapping video boxes, a text box, and audio.

So far, you've told us nothing about the media on your timeline. Please elucidate. People don't post these recommendations here to hear their keyboards click.

2 1080p30 video streams, a basic text box, a solid background, and an audio file. the 2 video files are overlaid in boxes. that's it. And getting snarky about a program that has well documented problems on many people's systems, and has a whole youtube presence dedicated to 'workarounds' is silly. YOU may know all the workarounds and find them not to be a nuisance...but obviously there's a whole segment of the community that just wants the program they've invested in to work. making vegas work without crashes IS a thing for a lot of people.

Not snarky at all, just realistic. If you don't provide the information, then nobody can help you. Never mind all the youtube BS - 90% of it is bad advice.

Surely you don't seriously believe Vegas is incapable of rendering a one hour 1080p timeline, do you?

It has yet to do it for me. I have NEVER been able to render a 1st generation edit over an hour. I have had to work on videos in segments, then do a 2nd edit to merge files every time. Having said that, I’d love to know what I need to do to not have to go through that

What a good story!

Which specific instructions did you "pretty much" do already, and which steps didn't you "pretty much" do already?

Be specific or be alone.

ignore … vegas fanboy. I love how all the vegas fanboys have profiles of themselves holding 20 year old cameras...
