DaviTools VideoWall for Magix Vegas Pro

wwaag wrote on 9/12/2020, 8:37 PM

With the author's permission, I have recompiled DaviTools VideoWall for use in Magix versions of Vegas Pro. This is a very useful dockable extension for easily designing and creating video walls that was originally written for use with earlier Sony versions. Here are a couple screen grabs of the UI.

I've added it to the Happy Otter Free Tools library. Here is a direct link where it can be downloaded. https://tools4vegas.com/davitools-videowall-2/

Here is a link to the author's website where detailed help information can be found. http://www.davitools.com/videowall/

Nice thanks! I attempted to use this in about a year ago without success. I'll report back if I have any issues with this one.

Wonderful wwaag, fa bringing back this old gem. That's good he gave you permission to bring it back to life 👍

What would really be awesome is it having a bit more modern style split screen presets.

Just what I was looking for. Wanted to experiment with a cellphone using it as a timecode clapperboard to sync multiple cameras but needed to see all the cameras at once like on a multicam track but with the source tracks intact so I can slide them around till the digits jive. Gonna give this a try.

@wwaag - Great work. Is there an issue with the Borders? I can’t get them operating.

Mindmatter wrote on 9/15/2020, 10:12 AM

Thanks WWaag!
but it does not show up in V17 in extensions ( followed the instructions for the dll with the Magix version)
Is it just meant to show in otter?

Alkso, I think it does basically the same as the Vegasaur pan crop assistant ? ( not their split screen)

@Grazie

From the author's website.

Are you missing borders? This is a known problem, the workaround is simple. First define a new preset border in Vegas, after this the plugin should also display borders.

@Mindmatter

Have you checked to make sure that the file is not blocked by Windows which often offers when downloading. To check, right-click on properties in Explorer. If blocked, it will look something like this.

There is no connection to HOS. Don't know about comparison with Vegasaur.

BTW, does anyone know why there are two Extensions submenus in different places, and why certain extensions show up in one place but not the other?

@Musicvid - I’ve asked the question some time ago. I’ve given up, thinking that if I knew, it wouldn’t make any difference to me, I just need to crack on. But let’s see if we get a reply and, what I’m thinking, it could possibly make the “accessibility” more logical. So, maybe your “BTW” has more weight than at first reading 😉?

Actually, there are three locations--View, Edit, and Tools although I've never seen one under Edit. It's up to the developer to decide where to display the extension. Here's what the API says:

So mostly, dockable extensions are found under View whereas tools such as PluralEyes are found under Tools.

The real reason, IMHO, is just to confuse poor blokes like you. LOL.

@wwaag - It’s your “mostly” that opens up a cavern of User wishes. And one I hope to address here.

I call this fandanglement - Process over Outcome. As you have had the pleasure of my working with you over the years, it’s been my “Don Quixote” quest to make all-things VegasPro, “Grazie Proof”. The Table of Terms you’ve posted is evidence to me that all is about Process, which it has to be. Where’s the User input amongst these decisions? Does a User get to influence that Table? Sure the Table has to be available for compilers, but who decides what’s what, and where it should lie?

The real reason, IMHO, is just to confuse poor blokes like you. LOL.

@wwaag - Ah, your pragmatism proceeds your underlying wish to do better for us 😉.

wwaag wrote on 9/16/2020, 10:48 AM

Even more confusing are the locations of extensions. Here are possible locations shown for Vegas 8 when Custom Commands were first introduced.

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\Vegas Application Extensions\

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Sony\Vegas Pro\8.0\Application Extensions\

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Sony\Vegas Pro\8.0\Application Extensions\

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony\Vegas Pro\8.0\Application Extensions\

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Sony\Vegas Pro\Application Extensions\

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Sony\Vegas Pro\Application Extensions\

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony\Vegas Pro\Application Extensions\

Additionally, they can be located in the Program Data folder. Again, it's up to the developer to decide what and where. I suspect it helps to have the developer work with the user, but that's no guarantee that the result will be best for all users. It's a real muddle.

There's another possible place... on the toolbar. Go to Options, Customize Toolbar and look for that little png you dropped into the extensions directory with the dll. That'll give you one-click access.

wwaag wrote on 9/16/2020, 4:09 PM

Or.... You can create a keyboard shortcut. Actually all of these options depend upon whether the developer has made them "available" to be included in a menu, toolbar, or keyboard option.

The same here for me too in VP17.

I added it to the toolbar so I don't have to go looking for it.
