Thank you for the continuing great work Wayne.

Discounted CCFS licenses available for purchase on HOS website for existing HOS license holders--$15

I purchased this immediately from the HOS site link above. (I am an existing a HOS owner). But after receiving the email, when I tried to enter the license in the Cumin dialog, it said license was not valid.

The odd thing is that the email with the license key said "Thank you for your purchase of Happy Otter Scripts."

I am sure I have missed something but not sure how to proceed. :-)

(Posting this here in case others need to see the answer).

More Edits: OK so I realised I have to enter the new serial number into the Happy Otter registration area instead of Cumin.

However, after doing that, although HOS seems to acknowledge it, the above FrameServer dialog still appears when attempting to render etc. and there seems no way to enter any valid serial number there.

Reyfox wrote on 8/3/2022, 3:13 PM

@Phil_P did you download and install the new HOS? Then follow the directions? "?" and click on the Activate button then there is a location for you to enter serial number for the CummCode, first and last name and email.

Hi, thanks for the reply, Yes, I think you can see in the above screenshot (2nd one), I installed the latest version (HappyOtterSetup-1.0.3.22) there were no instructions to activate anything, (I guess as I am an existing customer and of course I want to keep my existing settings as I have spent ages setting up the bars and so on).

As you can see above when I enter the (new) license number into the Otter License area it clearly shows that I am a "HappyOtterScipts - CCFS License owner."

I must have missed something but I have been through the process 4 times now and still the Cumin licence dialog appears. (If I try to use the Cumin Renders).

I have no other information. It's working (KwikPreview) fine.

The ball is now in @wwaag's court.

@wwaag

  1. Downloaded the new HOS Build
  2. Installed the new HOS Build
  3. Paid for the CCFS Upgrade with PayPal
  4. Received a new serial number in the email
  5. Entered the new serial number and email information into HOS Activation.
  6. Does not take my registration information
  7. Throws the same error over and over again
Phil_P wrote on 8/3/2022, 4:00 PM

Oh dear. Uninstalled and then clean install of HOS, lost all settings. Otter now reports license is out of date and will not continue, Crashes Vegas, which then will not close itself even using Task Manager and machine must be rebooted. I was about to go to bed an hour ago... Haha.

btw @Musicvid the symptoms of an instance of Vegas being left in Task Manager are exactly as you mention, (hanging on "Creating Windows"). Even if you think you have closed Vegas properly, (or had to quit using Task Manager), if you scroll down in Task Manager you will most likely see another version of Vegas which cannot be closed. You wouldn't be aware of it at all except for the fact that opening a new instance of Vegas then hangs on "Creating Windows".

Reboot required. :-)

I hope that helps a bit. :-)

Sorry for the delay in responding. Just learned that for some reason I had been "unfollowed".

@Phil_P

Most likely, the problem had to do with attempting to enter the serial number into the CCFS dialog rather than the HOS activation dialog. Will send you a PM with steps to get it working.

@Musicvid

When you launched the Help and got the above message, when did that error message occur? When clicking the Activation button?

I'll send some detailed steps in a PM.

@Phil_P @Musicvid

How did you launch a clean install? Did you remove HOS from your systems using Windows or did you select the clean install option from the install dialog?

@wwaag

I uninstalled from Windows and then also HOS. I have solved my issue now and managed to enter both licenses cleanly.

I think I may have misunderstood the discounted license. I was attempting to use the CuminCode FrameServer Renders in "Render As" which bring up the Cumin License dialog.

So I am guessing that means that the discounted license is not a full license? (If that is the case, it would have been nice to have that made clear, in which case I would have purchased direct from the Cumin site). Or is there some way to enter the HOS license in order to get the renders working?

nb. The Frameserver in Kwik Proxy appears to be working fine.

wwaag wrote on 8/3/2022, 4:38 PM

@Phil_P

"So I am guessing that means that the discounted license is not a full license?"

No, it is a full license. It's just discounted 40% from the price on the CC website.

For a clean install, you must first install your original HOS license after running setup. At that point, CCFS should work, although it will be a trial license. The trial license dialog will appear if you do a RenderAs from inside of Vegas. When you do a render using R+, it should work and the trial dialog does not appear even though you are using a trial license.

You should then enter the license in the HOS help dialog with the new serial number you received from the upgrade purchase. At that point, the full CCFS license should also be activated. When you do a RenderAs, the trial dialog should no longer appear.

You can check that the license is properly installed by opening Regedit and navigating to the following key. "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\CuminCode\FrameServer"

You will see a "licenseKey" which will be your original HOS serial number preceded by the suffix "HOS-". The key "isTrialLicense" should have a value of 0.

OK the license key in registry is showing the discounted license key (the new one). There is no "HOS-" preceding it. (I tried manually adding that but it had no effect).
The key IsTrialLicense is set at 0.

Render+ or Render As still brings up the Frameserver license dialog.

@wwaag, going to the registry and looking at "license key", the number there isn't my serial number for HOS, nor is there the "HOS-" suffix.

The "isTrialLicense" has a value of 1.

Everything appeared to be activated correctly.

@wwaag... forget it. In the registry, everything is now appearing as it should..... I don't know why it showed something different a few moments before. I even have the screen shot of it. But all is well.

Thanks for your hard work in getting this up and running. It has to be a labor of love...

@Reyfox

Regedit is tricky. If you make a change to the registry, it does not automatically "show up". You have to select a completely different subkey and then return to the key of interest. Otherwise, it won't show the change.

@wwaag - I haven’t installed, yet. I hope I won’t get the issues others have. I didn’t go for the discount option for CCFS I bought for full price and have it already working, I hope I don’t run into a different set of HOS installation issues?

wwaag wrote on 8/3/2022, 10:10 PM

@Grazie Hopefully not. Since you already have a license, it bypasses CCFS installation altogether. In all honesty, you can probably skip this build since the only thing new other than CCFS is the mask dialog for Deshaker which I suspect you don't use.

@wwaag It's all working now on 19. Thanks! I'm pretty sure it was the CuminCode folder in Program Files that was still populated, that was causing my problem. Will PM you regarding future releases.

Welcome back, both to HOS, and to you as a colleague!

wwaag wrote on 8/4/2022, 5:15 PM

@Musicvid

Glad its now working OK. Thanks for the return welcome. Thanks should also go the CuminCode developer who has made this possible.
