Installed the HO trial for Vegas Pro 16. All items on the installed list had green checkmark. I tried Kwik preview on a small (10sec) piece of timeline video with audio; selected the default size (480). The rendered file has audio but no video...black screen. Also tried Render + on same video. The frame server window (I think) opened and then Vegas crashed with a program kernel error. I'm running Windows 7 Pro on my i7 6700k w/16GB ram and an old Radeon RX460 GPU. Am I missing a component that should have been installed or??

Any help appreciated.

@kplo

I have a record you downloading a trial but never obtaining a trial license. To do so, launch help, click on Trial License and follow instruction on the dialog.

I have not tested recent versions of HOS on Win7 installations nor I have no idea whether VCE rendering will be supported. The newest version of the rendering app (Vceencc64) will definitely not work. However, I have included an old version that used to work with Win 7. I've been using an old RX550 for testing.

@Grazie

Thanks for responding.

I downloaded the trial again this am before my post and followed the instructions in the dialog. It indicated that I then had a trial license.

I'll try downloading the older version.

Thanks again.

My last post was referencing Grazie by mistake. I don't see an older version on the tools4vegas site.

@kplo

Only the most recent version is available on the HOS website. This evening, I'll try to install the latest version on my old Win7 system. It should have an older Vegas version--17 for sure.

@kplo

Just did a clean install using the latest HOS build on my win7 system which is an old i7-3770K. For testing, I used Vegas 14. To my surprise, it worked OK. No problem with using the latest frameServer--CuminCode--which is included with new purchases of an HOS license. Even more surprising was that vce rendering using my rx-550 also worked for both h264 and hevc.

I still have no record that your trial license was activated. My suggestion is to "try again" to obtain a license. Once you enter your email and click on Send Request, watch out for a dialog from the license server which unfortunately was beneath the Vegas dialog rather than on top.

One other thing to try is to simply do a refresh your license information once you launch the Help dialog.

just got the email about cumincode. i must say, i am very not pleased with this! i purchased HOS mainly because of the render options, and now i have to get an aditional license...

i have to purchase it and will do so, but i think somehow it had to be possible to make a deal with the cumincode guys for people who buyed HOS before for a bigger discount or for free, because basically all helped to make their tool better... it is just not very consumer friendly practice! that does not mean wwaag does not care for his costumers, he does very so, but still it sucks big time.

Reyfox wrote on 10/20/2022, 1:23 PM

This is old news. @wwaag made a post about this a while ago that if you wanted to upgrade with CuminCode, there was an additional charge. You could either purchase direct from HOS or from CuminCode. You can read about it in the changelog Aug 2, 2022 HERE.

It's not Wayne's fault. This was the only way to get KwikPreview to work with VP19, so blame the Vegas programmers. CuminCode isn't free. I think I paid $15 for the upgrade.

  1. Wayne did not write the update to Vegas Pro that caused this.
  2. Vegas did not consult Wayne before, during, or after the update was created.
  3. Wayne does not own cumincode. He was able to negotiate a special deal for you and me.
  4. End of discussion.

I purchased HOS about 2 years ago and updated to latest version 1.0.3.23 . I have no memory of purchasing a frame server license. So to test, I opened RenderPlus in HOS and Cumincode frame server popped up and rendered a project. Can I assume this means I have a legal license for Cumincode FS.

Probably not. You may have been lucky but do not be surprised if after say 14 days you may have to buy one. I seem to recall a note about this from Wayne.

My take was that new licences will include new FS, older users need to buy a license to use the new FS. This is not unreasonable as Wayne is not the author of FS.

Wayne went out of his way to get buyers of HOS a discount on Cumincode and someone is complaining? Really? This is the definition of going above and beyond.

wwaag wrote on 10/28/2022, 12:03 PM

@Rich Parry

Sorry for the delay responding. As you may be aware, notifications are not working on the forum.

Just checked. No. You do not have a CCFS upgrade license. There was a 30 day trial included with recent builds of HOS which is the reason it still works.

Here is the email I recently sent to all HOS customers.

HOS License Holder,

As you may or may not be aware, the DebugMode FrameServer (DMFS) is now deprecated and no longer works due to changes by Magix in the later builds of Vegas 19 and Vegas 20. To continue using any of the rendering scripts in HOS for these Vegas builds, the replacement CuminCode FrameServer (CCFS) must be used. If you have already purchased a CCFS license or purchased HOS after the introductionn of 1.0.3.22 on 2 Aug, you may disregard this message.

If not, you may still purchase a discounted license for CCFS on the HOS website for $15. Here is the link.

https://tools4vegas.com/get-a-license/

However, this discounted license will be available for purchase only through 1 Nov 2022. Afterward, you must purchase the CCFS license directly at the developers website at

https://www.cumincode.com/frameserver/

For anyone using older versions of Vegas through 18, DMFS will continue to work and an upgrade to CCFS is not required.

Thanks for your support of HOS.

Thank you for verifying that I needed to purchase a CCFS license which I did today. I used to run a software company, there came a point when piracy got so bad it wasn't worth fighting anymore, so I shutdown the company. I am hyper sensitive to piracy and gladly purchased a CCFS license. Although I feel guilty, $15 isn't much to pay for the software.
