Yes, I agree!

@Musicvid - Man it’s fast! The ALPHA works very well. Also, I’ve got It teamed up with HOS KwikPreview, blisteringly fast previewing.

Musicvid wrote on 10/21/2020, 1:26 PM

I'll have to try that -- I'm using it with HOS Import Assist to "upgrade" VP14 for GH5 10 bit 4:2:2

I agrreeeee a bargain..... I was a bit instrumental in getting Magic YUV the Vegas developer's kit to make some of that happen....yay me!!! ahahahaha.......but this is great news....YES, another great codec for most purposes now.

Rich Parry wrote on 10/22/2020, 1:01 AM

I thought about getting the MagicYUV codec, but when I went to the web page it said, "Lossless video codec for 4k and beyond". Since my target is always HD (1080p), I assumed there was no benefit for me. Am I missing something?

I do shoot some 4K video, but my final release format is always 1080.

@Rich Parry - Good price and this latest is supposed to be faster which is my main area to go with KP in HOS. Oh yeah, Pay Back for the Author, but that's me.

Hi Rich, if your question is about resolution, MagicYUV appears agnostic to this. It follows what is in your project settings. I just took a 4K clip on a 4K timeline and output to Magic YUV RGB. The resulting file was 4K. I then changed project settings to 1080p and rendered. Resulting clip is 1080p.

So if you have a use for a high quality intermediate format that supports alpha channels and is pretty quick for render and playback, it would be useful for 1080p only workflows.

@Rich Parry

Magic YUV supports all resolutions, and was in general use (free) for years before we had 4k. It is not "limited" to 4K and up...

Grazie wrote on 10/23/2020, 12:10 AM

@Musicvid - Aw MAN! You gotta try this HOS KW using MagicYUV as the preferred CODEC. It's waaaay fast . . . I just did a HEAVY Neat Video correction. KP using MagicYUV smashed it in 1.5x realtime. Can't ask for more - well I can 😉.

Wayne is a STAR. Now, not only will it produce that Preview QA option, it is NOT Volatile. I went into the TEMP folder I made for it on my SSD and it is there - ONLY to be replaced by the NEXT KP session. So, in theory, I've got a chance to utilise that File - unlike VP RAM Preview - back in my Project. I can see further options for this . . Wayne? You listening . . 🤓?

How long did you have to wait to receive it. I paid for it 2 days ago, and still haven't received it.

@rstrong - Wow, that’s worrying. This was my process:

  1. Downloaded Demo and got the Watermark.
  2. Tested it.
  3. Purchased.
  4. Reopened VP and went and used it and the Watermark was gone.

This was immediate. What can I say?

@MagicYUV

I purchased the new Ultimate version and I really appreciate the plugin. I've been creating animated graphics using nested projects for years, but they don't preview in real time in UHD projects. Replacing the nested projects with Magic YUV RGBA files preview at full frame rate. I've not used intermediates before because of the difference in files sizes from the nested projects, but this is so slick I plan to use Magic YUV RGBA renders going forward even if I delete them when I archive the projects. They can always be recreated easily from the miniscule nested projects if/when I revisit the project in the future.

@john_dennis - Yes indeed! Initially I was wanting an alternative to the deprecated QT Animation. Now with MYUV RGBA I’ve got it. And, it so fast, using it with Happy Otter Scripts KwikPreview is a dream.

@john_dennis fantastic report....love it and thanks. So, the "preferred" temp/preview codec for nested projects is selectable....and How is that done?

john_dennis wrote on 10/23/2020, 5:53 PM

@fred-w

I just replace the nested.veg file in Project Media with the Magic YUV versions that I rendered.

Grazie wrote on 10/24/2020, 3:22 AM

Hi VegHeads!

OK, further testing - it's all good . . However, using HOS KP:

1] Neat Video is fighting with it during KP Preview creation and eventually falls-over. Any thoughts?

2] Using a 14-second Event with Boris Particle Illusion and using 4 different CODECS here are the results:

MYUV RGB 1:11
MYUV VFW 1:11
NVENC 1:12
Built-In Template 1:11

So, not much of a difference. Could it be that the crucial unit, FrameServer (DeBugmode Mr Kumar), is bottle-necking the process?

What do you think Vegsters?

Grazie wrote on 10/24/2020, 3:25 AM

Ahah . . NV is fine. All good.

Grazie wrote on 10/24/2020, 6:58 AM

Interesting . . KP, using FS, is faster than a straight render. So, 80 secs for straight render, and 70 seconds via my KP using FS.

Interesting? Maybe not, but now I know that there IS a difference and not to question FrameServer.

@rstrong You should receive the email after purchase immediately. If you don't get it in a few hours the latest, then it either landed in spam or got blocked. In that case simply contact us through the contact form on our site and we can send you the links directly.

We use Gumroad as the distribution/sales platform, and in our experience their emails frequently get blocked/classified as spam unfortunately, most likely due to the fact that they send emails in the millions routinely.

Hello.....nothing in spam folder, but I installed the non trial version over the trial version and all is okay.

I found my original receipt of 2.0.0 from a couple of years ago and clicked on a box that took me to a page on your website that listed the newest version. I downloaded from there. Thank you.
