I have read several VEGAS Pro threads on this Forum about some editors' systems crashing during cutting out segments/trimming/editing timeline events while using auto-ripple to snap things back together (etc.) and then playing back and forth quickly with the spacebar. I'm eager to report that I may have solved those infrequent crashing problems in my case. It doesn't seem to matter what kind of video files or settings that I use; it is frustrating and happens perhaps a couple of times a day. It simply freezes and a notice pops up when manually closing. I have a very good, powerful workstation, so it's probably not related to that. But, over a long span of time and at least a couple of different Builds, including my current VP17-452, I have noticed the following...
I had noticed that the lower on the screen that I worked with the 4K video track (having more tracks, etc.), the more frequent the crashes occurred. So it could have just been that working in that lower part of the screen that those crashes occurred. I got the idea to use the Options | Preferences | Display setting to move the tracks to the top of my screen and the Preview, Master Bus, etc. to the bottom. The Display setting, as you all know, is to uncheck the "Display timeline at bottom of main window". Now my timeline is at the top and most of my work is in the middle of the screen instead of the bottom. So far, it seems to have stopped all crashes. If this is true, it could help the developers find the solution to this lower area of the screen where this seemed to occur for me. Only time will tell. But it is working fine so far. If you experience this problem, try this solution and let us know. Thanks.
