Upgraded to Vegas Pro 18, installed boris continuum entered the required license but despite uninstall restart and install and restart, I still get the X water mark smacked on the video.
Is this BorisFX Continuum Complete (BCC) that you bought from BorrisFX? If yes, then this is an issue that you will need to raise with BorisFX. If you are referring to an add-on to Vegas Pro that you purchased with VP, then please make sure that the 'X's only relate to BCC plugins that are not part of the BCC Unit that came with Vegas Pro. There are many Continuum Units that form BCC, but usually only one of those Units is available as an 'extra' with some Vegas Pro offers.
to Dexcon: First thank you for you time, second, yes I totally understand your answer. In a nutshell though some plugins are part of the vegas package with Boris serial number included, none of them plugins are available. I mean None!.
To vkmast, thank you, that's the first thing I read before getting to install vegas and all but thanks.
Thank you for the link to BorisFX I did saw it but I confess in the rush of downloading and organizing many of Vegas files, I was not sure I this was the right procedure. But the dust settled down I did registered the number. But now I had to write to support at BorisFX. I still having the same issue. Nevertheless thank you for your help. Happy Holidays to you and yours.
What do you mean none of the plugins are available?
First, which version of Vegas are you using?
Which plugins did you activate?
IF you have VP18, and are looking for BCC Optical Diffusion, you won't see anything in VP18's Video FX tab that will say that. Diffusion has a several plugins that will show up in a folder.
See screen shots below. I had to go to View>Window, and check mark Plugin Manager.
You can also see them in the Event FX window. Second screen shot.
Reyfox, Vegas pro 18, From BorisFX: none of them plugins are available to use without the X mark. OH yeah they there, but all with an X. And when I wrote None! I meant not even Boris FX Particle Illusion "Standalone". The one Boris unit as download instructions I got from Magix specify, you don't need a license to activate. I double checked Boris FX Particle Illusion Standalone just before responding to your question and in effect uninstalled/installed and once it finish installing it does not ask for a serial number or activation number
To make matters worst, Since I can't find in Vegas pro 18 Boris FX Particle Illusion "Standalone" I decided to remove/uninstall Boris FX BCC Optical Diffusion Unit to see if particle illusion would show up, Nope not there.
The standalone Particle Illusion is free, so it shouldn't have any water marks. I know several who've downloaded it and have it running without a problem and they have no other Boris plugins.
When I had the problem last year, here is the email that I received from Boris"
"Note that this installer will work with all three Serials, but you will need to implement all three of them one by one. To do this, after installing, go into the Start menu and in the All Programs/All Apps listing, and into the 'Boris FX Continuum OFX' folder - inside here the first item would be the one to prompt the Licensing tool again. Since your Serials only cover 3 Units, I would recommend, on the final Serial's Activation, telling it 'Yes' when it asks you if you wish to Remove Unlicensed Filters. This way, all of the Unlicensed filters/transitions of the Continuum package will not appear within your Vegas."
It worked for me. What I did though was buy the full Continuum perpetual license so I would never have to struggle through that again. Each year, it was a different "hoop" to go through with past Boris plugins and the current ones, which can not co-exist.
The problem isn't Vegas, but BorisFX. Also, go to their user forum where there are people there that can help you. They are quick to answer.
.. not even Boris FX Particle Illusion "Standalone". The one Boris unit as download instructions I got from Magix specify, you don't need a license to activate.
This is the free download link for Particle Illusion SAL. Particle Illusion as a Unit within BCC is a plugin which requires a license. I'm not sure what link MAGIX provided you.
I have the full BCC with Particle Illusion as a licensed plugin - and there was not a problem for me installing the free SAL version.
To Reyfox Thanks for your respond I think I'm way pass on your instructions because I know I will get the warning of too many activations. The problems is, there is no way to deactivate such numbers Boris does not have/keep them and Magix has the ones related only to their products and those are the only ones I can activate deactivate at will..
To Dexcon, Thank you very much for your help. You know there must be something wrong with the Vegas program I downloaded the plugin from your posted link and still doesn't show up. No kidding I even previously restored my hard drive because of these issues. I'm getting so fed up with Magix and the tech support sucks I wrote to them 4 days ago and no respond whatsoever. With all this running around bouncing from site to site looking for an answer I think I'll just ask for a refund. #%&+! sucks. Pardon my french. That's to bad this is a great programs and I've using it since it launched as Screenblast. Good day.
@michael-harrison so when you Reset your license, what happens? The reason I am asking is that I will be starting a hard drive exchange in the near future. Fresh install of Win10 and all my other software including Boris Continuum 2021. I'd hate to be "stuck" with that error message.
I had the issue that @Multi-Taskmaster was mentioning with Beauty Studio a couple of years ago. Uninstalled Vegas and Boris a couple of times. Vegas installed with no problem, I got the error message saying I've activated the plugin too many times, and of course making it unusable. Sadly at the time, Boris was no help. So last year, I bought Continuum Perpetual 2020 (Black Friday) and now have 2021. My "support" updates have ended, but can wait until next year (I've spent too much money this year on video) to renew "support".
@Reyfox It allows you to reinstall. At least in the last year, their installers give you an opportunity to give up the license when you uninstall but the one time I've had to reset on the site, it was simple. I just told them to reset and from that point on was able to register my license again.
@michael-harrison thanks for your input! My dread is moving to another hard drive and having "you have activated too many times" appearing and I am dead in the water.
The problems is, there is no way to deactivate such numbers Boris does not have/keep them and Magix has the ones related only to their products and those are the only ones I can activate deactivate at will..
People people, be patient and read my rant carefully I know I wrote a lot but if you don't have time to read well, don't read but don't give an answer either. Simple as that. You'll see it makes a lot sense.
Yes I, created an account at BorisFX searched for the one and only activation number I got with the Vegas 18 package but did not find it or see it. I did contact BorisFx support via email and chat and on both instances I got the very same response quote: "We (BorisFx) give/sells a bunch of numbers to Magix so they pass them along to their costumers included with the Vegas packages. On those number we (BorisFx) don't have control." and quote. And despite having entered my email credentials during the installation and activation process the number does not show at all in my account at BorisFX website. I even provided the activation number to one the guys at Boris tech support and he said he couldn't find such number so is impossible to deactivate something that does not exist (in BorisFx). My Question is, if BorisFX allegedly does not keep such number(s) why in the world do you have to enter your email and personal information during the installation of the said Boris units/plugins? To me is obvious those number are registered on their website servers but when you login in BorisFX you don't see them in your account. You then have no other choice than to buy their "perpetual license" Bam! now they're doing the happy dance because they got what they wanted from you: buy the whole package with some of the plugins that you, more than likely never going to use. if that's not the case then, where the hell are those number stored at to activate or deactivate?! I'm sorry but some of us not have that kind of money to burn and not all of us are into complex or cinematic (if you will) videos enough to justify such expense.
When your main hard drive decides to kick the bucket and part ways from your computer, Normally you call/contact the software company (of whatever you bought) and tell them, "Hey can you please reset my activation number to zero? Yeah I lost my hard drive I didn't or couldn't deactivate the number" their response: Sure! no problem. "Perpetual license?" why should I pay extra so that can have the privilege of activate or deactivate at will? when activate or deactivate should be part of BorisFX bunch of number as I was told to pass it along to Magix? Who's playing the dumbest? BorisFX or Magix? I smell a rat here. And what about Magix? They got your money what do they care? and in case you ask, I did searched for the BorisFX activation number in my account at Magix and nope, not there either. Regardless of which edition, Vegas Software is not cheap if you're a first timer and on top of that, if you want to be competitive or if you want to have the latest addition, you have to keep upgrading Every year. Add to that, other company's plugins expenses. Remember your hardware cannot be cheap or average either. See my point? Even if you got Vegas as low as $25, in Humble bundle (spoiler alert! not the latest edition) You still end up upgrading because is a bait and switch tactic to make you buy or at least upgrade for the full blown package. Folks, That ain't cheap!
Magix Tech support? what tech support? Look at us guys! we as the costumers are doing their tech support! We are doing their job! as we contribute with answers/solutions, are we getting paid? No. Are we getting compensated with a deeper discount for the next upgrade? No. Surely I'm not the only one with this type of issue.
Remember Magix humble beginnings? I do, their software was a meh software. The bigger they get the greedier they get. Pssss. Anyway I'm truly thankful to all, for your answers to my problem. Good day.
@Multi-Taskmaster I agree with a lot of what you have said. I've had 15,16, and 17 Suites with Boris FX and NBFX. The NBFX continue to work no matter which version, it's the Boris that was very problematic. You get the latest VP Suite with Boris, and it removes the past versions that were a part of earlier Suites. What to do.
The reactivation problem I had with Beauty Studio, was for the paid version that was never included with Vegas.
I did buy Continuum Complete Perpetual after one of the people in Boris made me an offer I could not pass up. I would get other plugins that I wanted anyway, and a host of others that while I will not be using them every day, they are there if I need them. Bait and switch? Paying to not have future problems? It seems the business model of today, but I was not forced to pay. They made me an unbelievable offer and apologized for the problems I was having getting the appropriate downloads. I am quite happy with my decision to buy Perpetual. Instead of buying "Suites" and wondering how messed up the installation will be, I don't and buy Edit. The savings alone pays for the upgrade on Perpetual Complete, and have all the plugins, not some of them.
My thoughts on the Humble Bundle and Magix. You do get a full working version of Vegas Edit without addons. And yes, it's last years "model". But that might be all you will need. Yes, they want you to upgrade in the future. But you don't have to, and you have no limit on what you can do within the software.
Honestly, that is how I got into Vegas. I never ever considered the software. Never, and I've been editing for... well, I won't tell my age, but think of Amiga/Toaster. The interface looked "ugly" so never bothered. But 2 weeks with VP14 Edit and I went all in and am quite happy.
@Multi-Taskmaster it was frustrating when installing new Boris Units and wanting to keep the old ones in the previous versions of VP. I bought VP17 Suite on a Black Friday sale. There was suppose to be an email from Boris with a download link. It never came, and it was a Thanksgiving holiday in the States, so no one answered my several emails. Finally someone from Boris did (4 days later), was very apologetic, considered my situation and offered me Continuum Complete Perpetual 2020 with updates including 2021 when released (they must have some road map to know this a year previously). The price was unbelievable. I would have to be insane to pass it up, so I bought. And while you are right, there are many things I might not get to, I've found out there there are many more things I am using that I would have never known about because I did not know they existed. I can spend a days with Particle Illusion. And with what they have released for 2021, wow.
What I am saying is that my bad experience turned into a very good experience. But something has to be done with the serial numbers and activations of Boris with Vegas.
@Reyfox Thanks for sharing your early frustrations related to Boris. It surely is frustrating for me as of this writing nothing has been done to remedy my problem and I finally got a response from Magix support suggesting to re-summit my problem to BorisFX. By any chance do you have tutorial for beginners about Particle Illusion? I open that section and is like "what do I do now?" That same feeling I got when I first started working with Extended Photoshop. I probably could see tutorials about Particle Illusion in YouTube. But it gets my attention you wrote you can spend days with it. So seems to me you have become an expert and can teach a thing of two about it.
@Multi-Taskmaster what I don't like is the shuffle between Vegas and Boris as to who is "responsible". While I understand Vegas is not the creator of the Boris plugins, there should be some mutual support from both to resolve your issue, which is, as I have read and personally experienced, fairly common. I've had the Vegas "Suite" version of VP15, 16, and 17 which included various BorisFX plugins. They were registered to activate, but going to my account in BorisFX, I see no serial numbers for them, only Continuum Complete. So how does anyone know when it's been activated too many times since there seems to be no record anywhere of the serial number being registered? This is one for the "X Files"....
I am by no means an expert with Particle Illusion. I just find what it can do fascinating. With all the emitters, the potential is limitless. I've watched the videos on the Boris site and just messed around to see what does what. There is a way with the standalone to get an image in it to customize things in PI. I have the full version so work within Vegas. I would start with the Boris video training located here:
I totally agree. To me, Boris people knows exactly what's going on. I wouldn't be surprise if they ever get a class action lawsuit for deceitful practices. Now, can you imaging what would happen if your hard drive suddenly give up?. I don't know if having an image backup would solve the problem. Since it supposed to be a mirror image of that hard drive. Something to think about if you ask me.
One example is, in the past when I was working with Photoshop CS5 one hard drive died and later on, another one just kept giving up windows errors and blue screens. But I always create image backups of the current windows. Though is the same computer, once the hard drive has been restored Photoshop will still ask for a serial number to activate. Even if the restoration was in the same hard drive. But thank God, I called Adobe support to reset the activation numbers to 0 and no problem there. "This is one for the "X Files".... LOL😄
@Multi-Taskmaster the BorisFX forum gets a lot of attention from those in the company. And they are prompt to answer questions or give directions to the right place. I guess since it is a very public forum, they have to. People who buy/use their software want to know they can get the required help when needed.
Give it a shot. And if you get a solid answer, post it here.
One, Does anyone have issue with "tracking" inside bezier effect in vegas pro 18? Mine doesn't show at all and once I select the area to be tracked, I cannot hit tracking button because is not there. Am I missing something or from the new version has been removed it? Can anyone verify this?
Two, I cannot find the stand alone BorisFX particle illusion despite I did and re-did the install.
Three, Does anyone know a contact number or link to Magix to ask for a refund. I looked up and can't seem to find it, or maybe they just intentionally make it elusive.
I just give up about Vegas 18 I have contacted both Magix and BorisFX tech support and as of this writing, no one has bother to answer my problems with this program. I'm fed up and frustrated with both companies and their aloof attitude and the way, way too long to respond to tech support. I bought this program on 12/03/20 and so far I cannot use it because whatever project you save on Vegas pro 18, since it is more advanced, You cannot revert back to the previous one and open such project(s) in Vegas pro 17,16,15, or 14 etc. It would be pointless to make projects and save them on a program from which I'm sure will not longer work once (hopefully) I get a refund. I have lost not hours but days googling, youtubing trying to find answer to this programs plagued with bugs. Never ever in my entire video career whether simple or complex video software, have I ever had so many problems with a video program such I'm having now with this one.
Keep in mind, I lost count how many times I did install reinstall of Vegas pro 18. In my current hard drive and in another freshly installed Windows 10 hard drive so far zero, zilch, nada.
