Update Vpro17 StabilizationFX?

3POINT schrieb am 10.09.2020 um 16:56 Uhr

Since the recent update of VMS17(https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-movie-studio-17-update-1-builds-137-179--123724/), the Stabilization FX seems finally to work properly now. To my opinion VPro17, suffers from the same bug (since last updates). Can Vpro17 Users expect also an update/bugfix for Vpro17 Stabilization FX or do they have to upgrade to Vpro18 to get proper stabilization results again?

Unfortunately i don't think any further updates will be coming for Vegas 17.....In the meantime i would encourage you to grab a copy of the Prodad Mercalli Plugin if you do stabilization often.... Yes its an added expense but nothing is better at what it does.

@Steve_Rhoden

I'm not asking for myself (Vpro18 and Mercalli User). I'm asking for those who bought Vpro17 with a working Stabilizer and who have been updated to a faulty Stabilizer. I can't believe that this is a new selling policy, making features faulty in the last update to force users to buy the upgrade.

ok, thought you were asking for yourself..... (Vpro18 and Mercalli, excellent combo).

But 3POINT, What kinda statement is that? The Vegas team does not make a feature faulty to force users into an upgrade, c'mon.

I said, I can't believe this, but the fact is that since the last updates of Vpro17 the Stabilizer became faulty. Maybe the Vegas team is not aware of this. In Vpro18 and also now after the update in VMS17 it's working (almost) perfect again. I know a few 👥 who are really angry that the Stabilizer in Vpro17 became faulty and who refuse to upgrade for this reason.

I just had an almost 4 months during conversation with Magix support on the issue of stabilisation. I have Vpro 17 and the stabilisation doesn't work properly. Magix acknowledged the problem, but they just don't bother anymore to repair it. Their answer is that I should buy Vpro 18 to solve the problem. Their answer, after testing Vpro 18:

"If you still haven't had the same issue in the trial of VEGAS Pro 18 that's a good sign that the issue in the last VEGAS Pro 17 build was resolved in 18. Since we don't usually release any new builds for older versions it is unlikely that this issue will be resolved with an update to Pro 17 so we would suggest looking into upgrading to VEGAS Pro 18."

So that is probably the reason why they bring out a new version of Vegas every year. I compare this with buying a car, finding out that after eight months the steering isn't working properly and when complaining about it, the dealer just simply says: "well, there is a new model out, so we are not doing anything about it, just buy a new car"

A disgrace in my opinion, and for this reason I would not recommend Vegas to people any more.

It's a shortcoming of their license model. They need revenue and people to buy the software each year but realistically a lot of engineering time is going into bug fixes, not just new features.

How do you address this? Go subscription only? Lots of people like me hate that.

or change from yearly upgrade to versions- e.g. VP 1.1 to 1.10 updates are free but when a new version number comes out then it costs to upgrade, and maybe costs more the older the version you are upgrading from?

I agree with you and wish Vegas were rock solid so people could upgrade when their hardware or camera or OS changes, not because they run into flaws in the current version. Here's hoping that day will come soon.

The VEGAS product pages show only one upgrade price regardless of the version you upgrade from.

"Information regarding the upgrade: You can upgrade at a reduced price with a previous version or other authorized product. Please have your login details or serial number ready."

Me too. But it is an effective way to overcome the problem that Frank-Bee identifies.

BTW, I am not too sure that Frank-Bee's analogy with motor cars is a completely reasonable comparison. First, the price differential between buying any NLE is vastly different from the purchase of a motor car (100s of $$$ with an NLE compared to usually 10,000s of $$$ with a car). Next, I am not aware of any mainstream major car manufacturer that offers an upgrade to the next model at something like 30% of the purchase price of the new model as occurs with Vegas Pro or many other NLE related companies.

This is in no way diminishing the approach to make comparisons to other retail products, but it really does need to be in the area of like-for-like.

3POINT schrieb am 19.09.2020 um 17:46 Uhr

@Dexcon When you upgrade to a new model of a car after one year, you get at least money back for your "old" car. When you're lucky, your upgrade costs maybe less than 30% of the new price. What do get back for your "old" bugged Vegas NLE with expired warranty?

The problem is that a bug has been introduced into Vpro17 Stabilizer since the latest updates, which I feel should be corrected with a free update and not with a payed upgrade.

I totally agree with that. Don't mind paying a bit for an upgrade, but not the whole sum, because I actually don't need an upgrade at the moment, other than to solve the stabilisation problem in Vpro 17.
