15 Suite: Trial vs Purchased download. Which should I use?

Mr_Scary wrote on 3/10/2018, 1:47 AM

I just purchased Vegas Movie Studio Suite.

Should I remove all the trial software, and install the purchased download, or just activate the trials?

Thanks for any help. Just don't want to mess up my workstation. And the trial seems a little off in ways.

I have a 20 Minute video with a lot of content I created with the trial. Movie Clips, Music, Voice overs, transitions, Jpegs, etc..

Try before you buy:

"Once the 30 day period has expired you can purchase the full version of a program without needing to reinstall it; simply activate the full version with the serial number supplied."

Update to a new build then, if there is one. ATM there is only the initial build.

So far I have not been able to activate "Music Maker" I have no code, I tried using the SOUND FORGE Audio Studio 10 code, but does not work. Everything else seems to be ok so far.

Any ideas.

Thanks...

Music Maker - I suspect, as I haven't downloaded it and could be wrong", it's the free edition. If so it doesn't need activating yet I find on opening a copy I have it appears to need so. But the code is only needed to get into the store? I just pressed Activate and it works. You may need to enter your Magix account details somewhere. I also have a "non-free" edition that came with MS14 Suite which probably complicates matters. It looks quite different. Both seem to update periodically and confuse me but then I'm not musical. So the best of luck with it when you get it going. I actually prefer Acid Music Studio which came with MS13 and which Magix sell separately.

Check if the email confirmation of your order from Magix has the MM code.

I checked in the Programs and only 1 MM installed, and no code in email. I did have the trial one installed, it seemed to update when installing SOUND FORGE Audio Studio 10. But it is not activated. Looks like I may have to uninstall MM, and run SOUND FORGE Audio Studio 10 again. IDK.

Sound Forge and MM shouldn't be connected. MM probably updated after you purchased the suite to a later build. I recall this happening with my MS14 version.

Can you tell which version of MM it is as there are several. When you try to open it what screen appears. Attach a screenshot. I also find it slow to open so be patient.

MM version 25.1.2.78

Yes it was included in the Sound Forge Studio download.

It takes about a second for mine to load.

Thanks.

I'm off to bed, I'll check here first thing tomorrow.

I appreciate all the help.

Try clicking the "Ready" button, bottom right. I suspect the activation is only for Content which perhaps you only get with the better versions? Mines the same version number and clicking Ready takes the window away and into the programme. I searched on the Magix Community Forum in case there was something there but found nothing. As I said previously it's a confusing programme, just to get going.

OK, I uninstalled "Music Maker," Restarted my computer, and reinstalled it through with "Sound Forge Audio Studio .exe" download. I was able to select only "Music Maker" in the check boxes, and not have to reinstall "Sound Forge" and the extras.

I'm now at version 25.0.2.44 so it's older version, but maybe now I can update from here.

All is good, the activation box has disappeared.

Thanks all..

Edit, As you said above. After looking more I see there are 3 versions Standard(FREE) Plus & Premium. I'm guessing I have the Standard FREE version. And the dialog is actually just asking to upgrade.

Would have been nice to know I was getting the FREE version included with the Suite. as it was one the reasons for purchasing as I also record music.

Ran the updater installed 25.1.2.78, and now back where I started, Activation dialog is back asking to "activate edition"

Activation dialog is back asking to "activate edition"

The programm not ask you to activate. Only when you hit activate edition. This is because you can add multiple editions (Music Maker MX- the current ones):

Thanks, yeah I guess Movie Studio Platinum comes with a the (FREE) trial version of MM so really it comes with nothing seeing as you can just go download the FREE version without buying Studio.
