3.3GB MP4 not opening in Vegas Pro

Carl-G wrote on 9/11/2022, 11:14 PM

Trying to open in Vegas Pro 19, a 3.3GB MP4 file (recorded in Logitech Capture), but it won't even load (Dragged to the timeline). However, I can open all other MP4 files (smaller size from Logitech Capture), but this 3.3GB MP4 file will not even load in Vegas Pro 19 (Nor in VP17).

What is the road block? Is there a size limit?

@Carl-G - Openned VP17, I just checked a 3.6GB 4k footage MP4, plus a 2.8GB worked immediately.

Perhaps somebody would like to comment on SIZE versus DECODING as being an issue?

Share MediaInfo for the working and non-working files? Without that we're just guessing. There's no size limit that I've come across.

@RogerS there was an "implied" same file format. But we've been here before. 😉

@RogerS I'm guessing @Carl-G believes them to be the same.

@RogerS - Sure. Maybe the size is relevant IF the decodes are too much for opening the MP4?

We need more information.

@Carl-G There's no size limit that i know of,

42.76 GB Screen captured with Nvidia Geforce Experience, RAM went up to 27GB

Here's the data. Both files recorded from the same source on the same computer (Plenty of drive SSD and HDD space, 32GB RAM, Win 10 64bit, NVIDIA GeForce GTX1660, both files recorded with Logitech screen Capture). Left side= small 75mb file which loads fine in Vegas Pro 19 Timeline. However, the 3.3GB file will not load in Vegas Pro 19 Timeline. Yet both play fine in VLC. The *glaring* difference I see is that for some reason the large file data does *Not* include "Frame Rate"!!! Could that be the problem? If so, How do I restore the frame rate figure (of 30) to the data?

@Carl-G Why doesn't your Large file show a Frame rate?

Is the 3.3gig clip playable with anything? You can get more complete data from MediaInfo.

@Carl-G Hi, changing a comment after i asked the frame rate question confuses the thread, you'd have been better making a new comment after mine at 3:41 PM 😉

Will do next John-Thanks for the link - the quick response support on this forum is amazing! (I'll do this next step when in between projects this afternoon). Meanwhile I have the quick screenshot above from MediaInfo.

Many of us use OBS Studio for captures. My Logitech USB webcam works fine with it and Vegas.

And it's much more flexible! Thanks for the suggestion. Will get in new habit of OBS.

Here's the update (hope I'm doing this right with a 'new' comment). I solved the issue by John_Dennis suggestion... from another post... simply convert the file > go on with life! In my case, I had an old copy of PAVTube (but is not recommended now because of security questions). And reconverted it to standard mp4 H.264... showing 29.97 FR and it loads perfect in Vegas now. Thanks all for such quick responses!! I really appreciate it. Great Forum.
