For some reason I am not able to burn dvds anymore. I keep getting this error:

The write failed because the drive returned error information that could not be recovered from.

AMD RAIDXpert
Task 0 timeout on disk (Port Number 3, Target ID 1) at LBA 0xe0042a (Length 0x0)

NEED HELP!!!! I downloaded 5.2 trial and it works fine

Then, problem solved?

Why on earth use DVDAS to burn DVDs when there are dozens (well maybe a few)of free burning applications that do the job so much better?

Well, in my case, I use DVDA because it works. And it has worked for ten years.

What makes "other applications" any better?

For one, it doesn't verify.

It doesn't allow booktype setting either.

"It doesn't allow booktype setting either."

Why would I want to?

DVDA properly sets the Book Type to match the media in the burner. Which has served me well for ten years of DVD production. I always include couple of DVD+R discs for the clients with ancient players, and I've never been asked for a DVD-ROM for use in a game console.

So, why would I ever need to change the Book Type?

I have never dealt with booktype either Steve, but I do like the confidence I get from using IMGBURN instead of burning from DVDA. I usually just create a folder and burn that using imgburn.

I like the verify and the other feedback that it gives me. Also, at one time DVDA burned disks were not compatible with certain DVD players. I don't know if that was resolved or if those players just went away.

I've no idea, but many people think it important, mainly, I believe, for increased compatibility with older players.

Changing the Book Type was supposed to be a critical issue in the early days of release of the many combinations of DVD-/+R - but the marketplace has overcome and largely bypassed this issue.

If you are distributing to a base of set-top players that are in the 8+year old range of manufacturing date - maybe an issue. Most player population in use today does not even come close to including a concern of that level- about how many older players are in public hands. Take care to distribute today as if all players are really Blu-ray players that can play DVDs.

Didn't understand "Book-Type" I find DAS is hugely too complicated, but will burn DVDs which I can show on TV...that's all I want, for now.

This "imageburn" software....is it a replacement for DA(studio5)..?

(see recent post, etc)..Having "lost" DA I cant burn my M2TS rendered files which Vegas Studio produces. These files have burnt in the past but as DA is now "gone away" I really need a replacement.

Does the replacement software have the ability to create a playable DVD? ie it will compress the Vegas Studio Output?

((Ideally it would also burn AVCHD which Architect appears to skate-over (I can't find it) so I can't play HD/DVD on a BlueRay player. I don't have a BD Burner, -or- any BD discs. The Movies are quite short so a BD disc would be very wasteful. I read that DA "could do this" but it needed a "workarround" - an alternative burner-software would "I Hope" resolve this, at least until DA "comes back" (If ever!), and maybe with three options: DVD, AVCHD and BlueRay....
If Sony is reading,.... it would be nice to have a "Space-meter" to see how much space is still available before burning. I had a v.long vid and Architect wouldn't (or couldn't?) put it on two DVD's - so I used VHS tape . . how dumb is that! Don't even think BlueRay......as not everyone can play them.
I recall Nero has this, at the bottom of the screen and warns when you are close to the CD-limit.-Not sure how to make a "break" but this must be a problem for folk at an event like Weddngs - I haven't seen a "Red-Bar" in Vegas timeline - so one could make EDITS for different Output Media...Neat?

harry,
ImgBurn is a burning tool, not an authoring tool.
With regard to burning AVCHD content to disc in Vegas or Architect(s), this is the situation since the late 2011 builds came out
