Add Media - Automatically appearing in time line - How to stop that?

Matthew-Mandell wrote on 10/19/2020, 12:45 PM

I had VGMS for years, just got 17. When I add video to the media bin it is automatically appears on the time line. When I erase it from the time line it removes it from the media bin. There must be a switch to turn this off. WHERE? This sucks and does not work well.

Also I would like to create sub bins in the media bin, ie, video, music, stills, graphics etc.... I can't seem to find where. The older version it was clear.

THANKS!!!

Not my experience.
Maybe you did something wrong, but you did not tell or show what you exactly were doing.
Here is how it goes with me, but I have the Platinum version that allows it.

Also in Platinum you have to make a new bin by right click and than drag the files into that, look

ALL I am NOT getting any pulldown menu on the media bin. Where am I, at the very start of creating. I import it appears on the time line. I remove it from TL, it removes from Media Bin. And I can't create sub bins. Something is wrong. VMS Platnum 17 is what I have. I have used VMA for 10 years, upgraded, and not this.

There's an online help item "Using storyboards" and a tutorial e.g. here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/tutorials/interactive-storyboard-editing--114946/.

Personally, I use only Power User mode and seldom if ever use storyboards (or Dashboard). I use "Add media..." which adds files only to the Project media tab without creating events on the timeline. (Help item "Adding media files to your project". See also "Sorting your media with bins".) See also @j-v's two videos.
