In VEGAS Movie Studio Platinum, ""From the Project menu, choose Add Media (or click the Add Media button in the Project Media window) to add a media file to your project without adding it to the timeline."

Yes, but it automatically adds it to the timeline when I do this. How do I stop it from automatically doing this?

@frjr123 Are you sure that you have the Platinum version and not the basic VMS version?

If you're using Platinum, please read the online Help item "Adding media files to your project" to see various options.

Yes, Platinum version and I did read it, as it states the same thing you stated. The older version 16 let me add media the same way but allowed me to add without automatically placing the media on the timeline (at the end point). Version 17 doesn't give me a choice, it automatically adds the media onto the timeline.

Have you tried Edit menu > Add media or Project media tab > Add media? (VMS 17 P). Or drag from the Explorer to Project media?

And I always use Power user mode and close Dashboard.

@frjr123 I've just added media using the 'Add Media' option in the 'Project Media' tab. The media I selected imported into the Project Media but not onto the timeline. I've had a look in my settings and I can't see anything that would make this act differently. I have Movie Studio Platinum Build 221.

Have you tried a full reset?

Have to agree with Jack S

Vegas Movie Studio 17 Platinum, Vegas 18 Trial.

Open/Add media. Selected file/open. Media added to Project media box. Items selected remain in box.

No addition to time-line.

Ross

As I quoted in my early comment. Dragging from Explorer to PM may be undocumented in Help.

See also the comments in this thread for pointers (e.g. "run as administrator") if the OP still has issues.

All fixed. I just re-installed the program and it worked correctly. Thanks for the reminder.
