Adjusting title scroll speed in 12 Platinum Suite

DavidF1940 wrote on 1/29/2014, 2:17 PM
Hi,

I have just purchased, and started using, 12 Platinum Suite, and am diligently working through the tutorials, so please bare with me. I have been guided through adding a text title with transparent background running over the main video. I have set the title to run for 10 seconds, but it insists on running the scroll for about 2 seconds (too fast to read), no text for 2 seconds, repeat text for 2 seconds etc for the 10 second duration. I can find no control to change this to one, relatively slow, scroll lasting the whole 10 seconds. I have searched the help area but it doesn't seem to go into such fine detail.

The (pdf) User Manual refers to "adding scrolling credits" and says to go to Media Generators and seklect "Credit Roll" plug-in, but I can see any such plug-in listed.

Can anyone help me, please? Also, if the solution IS within the documentation, please tell me where to help me solve the next problem myself.

I did try searching this subject on the forum before writing this post, but to no avail.

Thanks in advance

Apparently what you've done is drag out the event on the timeline to be 10 seconds long, but the title itself is still 2 seconds so it merely repeats. In the title editing window near the top center is a box labeled "duration". Change this to 10 seconds. This is what specifies how long the title takes to "run", regardless of how much time it occupies on the timeline.

Yes, it would be nice if changing one of these also changed the other, but alas, it doesn't.

Thanks. I am still having trouble. Let me give more details.

To edit my text event I click on the first icon (Generating Media) in the box representing the Title Event in the Text Timeline. As expected it gives me a box/pane entitled Video Media Generator and subtitled Sony Titles & Text. The first line under the Video Media Generator title has Frame Size (1920 x 1080) and Duration (00:00:10;00), which matches the whole event duration but not that of the "left scrolling". I have tried generating another similar text event, this time 5 seconds long, which again gives me the appropriate duration in the duration box but several cycles of the overfast scrolling. Is there some other place for me to insert cycle duration?

I am slightly surprised that there seems to be know "apply" or "done" button in the pane to show completion of edit. It seems one simply closes the box, or have I got this wrong.

Thanks for your help.

A "Search" (or two) gave me these posts that might help.

Create a selection area on the timeline, Right-click the track in that selection area, and choose to add your generated media that way. Then it will match the length of the selection area.(jetdv, 2010)
Use the "Replace Plug-in" button if necessary.

Using the basic Titler, enter all your text on a single line. (Mike K, in CC 2009, probably somewhere here too)

Q. Are there any settings in the new Text & Titles plug in that extends or shortens the animations?
A. You can change the length of the event, which will change the duration of the animation. However, that also changes the duration of the text itself. No modifications are possible to the animation sequences themselves.

Try making the duration time something like 2 minutes, this will slow the scroll. It will not slow the scroll to 2 minutes long but will just change the rate of scroll.
Also right mouse click on the text in the timeline and there is a playback rate. The minimum is 0.25 so this on its own may not be enough. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone. Sorry not to have got back sooner but I have been distracted by other (mostly domestic) matters).

I have tried the various suggestions. I still cannot properly control the speed of the scrolling to make it last more than 2 seconds repeating for the 10 seconds of the event length as defined in the "duration" box". I used vkmast's suggestion of right clicking in the 10 second selection area and then selected "Insert Text Media", to no avail. Where is the "Replace Plug-In" located?

However, I have had some limited success based on kayjas's suggestion. I insert the text box in a 10 second box on the timeline, and then adjust the duration to something like 1 or 2 minutes. This does indeed slow down the scroll speed and can, by trial and error, be selected to give roughly what I want. This does seem to be a crazy way of achieving what I would have though would have been a fairly basic, and commonly required, titling effect. As a beginner, I do hope that not too many other items are so non-intuitive, or have I missed something?

Thanks for your advice.

David,
<<<Where is the "Replace Plug-In" located<<<
It's that green button in the Video media generator window (upper right next to ? mark) you get when you "Insert text media". You could create what you want in Titles and Text too, but it may be easier to replace plug-in to Legacy Text. Your selection area length will be what you want and the length of the generated media will match. Mike K's suggestion I quoted does work.

Yes my idea was after a lot of trial and error. I also had to trim the beginning and end to get the scrolling text to actually start with the first word and finish with the last word. Very frustrating indeed.
